I voted on the panel suggestions for DC-Slash, and there are some I'm really excited about! Here are a few that I hope will make it onto the schedule:
Kerr Avon: Choose Your Fighter (and Your Favorite Ship)
Kerr Avon is the dark heart of Blake’s 7. He's also its most versatile slash character. Is he destined for doomed passion with Blake? Silliness or long-term through thick and thin with Vila? Tangled with Tarrant? Or maybe an enemies to lovers pairing with Travis? Bring your OTP, your favorite fic recs, your crack theories, and your thirst.
S/H: Let No Man Tear Asunder
The series threw a lot of issues at our dynamic duo. What or who had a chance of breaking them apart? Kira? Gunther Industries? Or the various kidnappings and attempts at mind-alteration? Death?
Starsky & Hutch: It Wasn’t Just the ’70s Queering Copaganda
Starsky & Hutch was born out of a very specific moment in American television. It was post-hippie, pre-Reagan, and during a period of increasing skepticism toward authority. It was a buddy cop show, yes, but also a unique one: deeply emotional, tactile, and often shockingly gentle in its depiction of male intimacy. At the same time, it participated in the tradition of copaganda which showed an idealized or oversimplified version of policing. This panel invites a critical queer lens on how Starsky & Hutch both reinforced and subverted cop show tropes, especially in the context of slash fandom.
“Just a Flesh Wound”: The Slashfic Art of Whump and Recovery
Whether it’s a bullet graze, a broken rib, or a full-blown ICU slowburn, nothing says love like suffering followed by someone tenderly patching them up. This panel dives into the enduring appeal of whump in slashfic: why we write it, how we balance pain with healing, and what makes a good “he’s bleeding out in my arms” scene unforgettable.
High Stakes and Hand Touches: Shipping in Historical Settings
Glimpsed ankles, gloved fingers brushing, yearning glances across ballrooms, there's nothing quite like a little historical tension. From Regency repression to 1920s scandals and the forbidden love stories hidden beneath powdered wigs, let's talk about why historical settings are so deliciously ripe for slash. We’ll explore the queer potential (and pitfalls) of real-world eras and how fanfiction navigates historical accuracy vs. vibes.
Anyway, if these have piqued your interest, register for DC-Slash and cast your votes for the panels you want to see, too!
