DBZ x DC Prompt
(Inspired by a previous post)
“Remind me how I let you talk me into this again?”
Vegeta whispered to his wife, currently stuck on their way to a Gala held by the Wayne Foundation in Gotham City, on the other side of the planet from West City.
“Because it wouldn't look good on Capsule Corp for me if I came alone and you've been busy training way too much lately that I figured it could just be you and I for a night together.”
Bulma chuckled to herself before continuing as she leaned against the Prince, “Besides I would have to be insane coming to a city like Gotham without a certain Saiyan watching over me.”
With a sigh, Vegeta rolled his eyes and just continued to fidget with his dark purple tie. Clearly he was not exactly comfortable in anything other than his usual spandex at bare minimum.
As they approached, Vegeta could already feel the boredom seeping in before they even got there.
“I'm sure you don't need a reminder of the rules?”
The genius heir of Capsule Corporations pecked her husband on the cheek as his cheeks flushed pink while grumbling, “Yeah… yeah… No picking fights, no mentions of my Saiyan origins or heritage, and no powers unless it's an actual emergency.”
Vegeta followed Bulma into the building, Wayne Manor, as they were greeted by a man with black hair and a dark suit; one didn't hide his well maintained muscles, Vegeta noted.
He nodded at her with a soft smile, “Mrs. Briefs, it's been quite a while since you last attended and… I see you’ve brought a friend?”
“Oh stop Bruce, we've known each other for years… you can cut the formalities. Bruce, meet Vegeta, my oh so darling husband. Vegeta, this is Bruce Wayne, an old friend of mine.”
Vegeta looked at Bruce who extended a hand outwards and he reluctantly took it, “It's nice to meet you in person, I've heard… a lot about you.”
The prince then pulled his hand back to cross his arms, “Hmph. Bulma has mentioned your name a few times in passing, though I don't care much for the high class lifestyle like this personally.”
Bulma chuckled before they noticed someone approaching.
“Oh, so you're Mrs. Briefs?”
Vegeta’s eyes widened the moment he noticed another man of similar muscular build to Bruce appear but with a less high class suit and a pair of glasses. A woman with black hair was right behind him carrying a notepad.
“Clark Kent & Lois Lane of the Daily Planet in Metropolis, do you have time for an interview on the recent breakthroughs on technological advancements at Capsule Corps?”
The Saiyan felt such an intense pressure right now, it was almost difficult for him to breathe with the sheer power radiating off of him and…
Bulma seemed to chuckle, “Please Mr. Kent, Briefs was my father's name… just call me Bulma.”
“Well either way, I was hoping you'd-”
Vegeta knew damn well what this type of Ki was…
“A… Kryptonian?”
That suddenly made Clark look straight at Vegeta surprised, as Bulma seemed confused. Bruce meanwhile then seemed to glare at him, analyzing him.
“Huh? Did you say something? …Vegeta?”
The Saiyan knew of the stories of the Kryptonians, a militaristic society that became supposedly less violent… and were one of the fiercest enemies of the proud Saiyan Race until their planet blew up as well with few survivors. The copycats…
He heard the Earthlings mention a Kryptonian or two on Earth, but he wrote it off… he should have been able to sense them yet…
“I've heard it said they were on this planet… but…”
No, it's like they barely had any Ki beyond small trace amounts… like the Androids. But whatever they use for power, it's certainly not anything Vegeta can detect other than feeling the strength he radiates alone in close proximity. It was neither mortal nor divine in nature, it just… was.
And the pressure feels suffocating to him, barely able to breathe or focus on anything else.
He was prepared to fight, to protect his wife from whatever force this was, consequences be damned.
But Vegeta then felt a hand on his shoulder as he was suddenly pulled away, he could barely make out Bulma making some half-ass excuse for needing to run along until she shoved the both of them into a closet.
“Alright, what was that about mister?”
Vegeta grunted, “It was… no it was nothing.”
“Vegeta… I saw your reaction, that wasn't normal even by YOUR standards.”
The Saiyan growled, “What the hell are you-” before his mouth was covered as he saw Bulma look sincere.
“I saw you AFRAID, Vegeta.”
“Wh-what?”
“You looked pale and like you were on the verge of going into some panic attack in the middle of picking between fight or flight. For YOU, of all people, to have that reaction… that wasn't ‘nothing.’ Especially after we saw how scared you were when Beerus showed up for the first time all those years back.”
…
Vegeta sighed and rubbed his forehead, he could feel the sweat on his hand as he grumbled.
“...(Sigh) I'll tell you later after the gala, I promise. Not now, please.”
Bulma thought it over before nodding as she then leaned in and kissed him on the lips for a moment, “Alright… but you owe me one hell of an explanation.
(Meanwhile on the other side of the building.)
“Bruce, did you also hear what he said?”
“Yeah… he clearly could recognize you were a Kryptonian somehow, and… that reaction. It's clear you rattled him for some unknown reason.”
“But… It also means we have a new issue so far, if a Saiyan is truly on Earth.”
“Right, but… we're unsure if Bulma is even aware so far. Regardless, at the very least… it seems we'll have to move to Plan B then.”
“...So soon?”
“We can't leave a Saiyan to their own devices, not when he's already seen our hand like this.”
“Right.”
As both ran off, Clark prepared to confront Vegeta when they're alone and take their conversation outside while Bruce planned to keep Bulma preoccupied and secretly interrogating her, both of the Justice League members failed to notice Lois Lane rolling her eyes and walking off.
“And there they go, always jumping to conclusions.”
She pulled out a small pen and paper, muttering under her breath, “Idiots… both of them.”
