my favorite thing about Blindspotting is how soft Daveed played Collin. He really didn’t have to. Collin was written as conflicted and perceptive and traumatized and intelligent and tired and frustrated. But it was Daveed’s nuanced performance that made him more vulnerable and soft than I think I’ve ever seen a grown, straight black man portrayed in media and that’s so important to me 🙏🏽 that Collin wasn’t reduced to comedic relief, and he wasn’t just hurting or angry or a hardened thug. He was a fully realized human being grappling with PTSD and his own loneliness and his own need to be wanted and worthwhile and his own self validation.
