it's bad enough that the writers more often than not have used female love interests (for buck specifically) as nothing more than plot devices and rarely bothered to even give them more than one personality trait (or even last names), but seeing fans put these characters on pedestals and act like they weren't flawed (which is not necessarilly a bad thing) or poorly/under-written and could do no wrong is truly the cherry on top for me.

taylor kelly was easily the most three dimentional fml we ever had for buck. she had a personality. she was smart, witty, had a complex past and was highly ambitious. and most importantly, she had flaws, like every real human being. it's one of the reasons i loved her as a character and would root for her to be back on the show now and then.

ignoring her flaws and mistakes only diminishes her as the multifaceted character that she was/is.

she was wrong to run the story on jonah. there's no dancing around it. not only did she go back on her word to buck; promising him not to run this story, she lost her integrity as a journalist by using information given to her "off the record".

while the latter point isn't really up for debate, with the former, you could argue that it was always in her nature to prioritize her work and career ambitions over love. and i would agree. doesn't make what she did morally right though. And thats OKAY. fictional female characters can be morally grey or "bad" and you're still allowed to love them and root for them.

in my personal opinion, she was in the wrong for doing it because (again) not only did she break her promise to her romantic (relatively long term) partner, she also risked jeopardizing the LAFD's image and the firehouse that she knew were family to her boyfriend.

yes, perhaps someone else would've run it, but someone else would not have all the info she had prior to jonah's arrest, and someone else wasn't close with one of the firefighters close to the situation.

you normally don't step on your boyfriend's family to reach your career goals, and if you do, you can't expect your boyfriend to be okay with it.

Tldr: taylor kelly was flawed, and it's what made her such an interesting and compelling character.

Sooo, I moved 1,5 months ago and my apartment is still more or less a mess. Or rather, my work desk is since I still have to buy a lock in order to take some of the stuff I don't need every day to a storage locker.

Thus I haven't been able to draw almost at all, just some quick trad sketching. But hopefully I'll get back to posting once I get that lock...

so I always assumed ‘with fire and blood’ was a fairly blatant war slogan. ‘we will take what we will, with our dragon’s fire and as much spilled blood as it takes’.

but it just occurred to me, I’m not sure it means that at all. it could very well be a reference to the Targaryen obsession with family corrupted over time to justify the actions of those who suffered from the madness that ran in the family.

‘we are strongest, we are indestructible, we can do anything, as long as we have our dragons and our family by our sides.’

i really love that. especially considering Aegon must’ve been thinking of his sisters when he decided on it.

chiming in on the letbuckfuck #letbuckfuck and the whole casual sex discourse, i kind of agree with both sides?

let me elaborate. so on one side we have #letbuckfuck who makes a pretty compelling arguement about allowing buck to explore sex now that he's much older and mature, especially since he had a pretty unhealthy relationship with sex during his teen and young adult years and recieved somewhat questionable advice on how to view sex from Bobby (RIP). and I don't disagree with this, not entirely at least. I feel that Buck's unhealthy views on sex and intimacy kind of went forgotten and unexplored. he went from 100 to zero after meeting Abby and from what we've SEEN on canon, he only had casual sex with one person outside of a committed relationship (taylor) who he eventually did get in a relationship with. (and also the one night stand with tommy but I digress)

and on the other side of the arguement we have fans who are frustrated with Buck having to re-learn how to be alone and how to be a good boyfriend over and over without making any notable progress throughout the seasons despite (accodring to buck) being in therapy regularly. they want this cycle to be broken and for buck to finally get into his last relationship and explore his issues there and grow within that relationship (ofc im talking about buddie) with his last and true pair. which again, I agree with. we've seen buck handle conflicts inside his relationships pretty poorly multiple times and maybe it's time that he deals with them once and for all and find his happily ever after in the long run.

so where do i actually stand in this discourse? did you think i don't have an opinion? lsidflj

for the former arguement, my personal critique on it (and I don't mean this to be attacking on anyone else's opinion. i 100% respect the #letbuckfuck truthers) is that the show has lost the appropriate window of time to explore that. instead of having him go from one relationship to another without having any flings and one-night stands with other people in between serious relationships (that most young and attractive guys have) for eight seasons, they should've explored that while he was "learning and growing" for 8 years. they should've let him fuck after his breakup with ali. they should've let him fuck after taylor and they definintely should've let him fuck after natalia and maybe use that time to hint on his bisexuality instead of springing it onto the audience out of nowhere (again, thats my perosnal opinion).

and then there's the arguement that he has already healed his unhealthy relationship with sex and him having casual sex isn't him falling back onto his old coping mechanisms, but that begs the question; how do we know that for sure? because at no point in the last 8 seasons has that topic been shown to be explored or even verbally discussed. I personally don't assume that he's "fixed" just bc its been years and he's been in therapy allegedly. because from how we see him react to conflicts within his relationship and the lack of flings in-between them, I for one am not convinced that he is [fixed].

tldr: they should've #letbuckfuck years ago and addressed his issue/traumas regarding sex gradually throughout the years. so if we do see him suddenly have casual sex in s9 with no hint of guilt or falling back onto his old coping mechanisms, I see that as poor writing because we never saw him heal for years.
