Y’all wanna shed some happy ass tears?
Meet Joshua Castille, a man cast to play Quasimodo in one of the few recorded stage productions of Hunchback of Notre Dame, which is much more like the book and 1930s film than the Disney cartoon.
The gargoyle beside him is EJ Cardona -- the voice of Quasimodo. Like Quasi in the novel, Castille is completely deaf, and communicates his lyrics through ASL, while Cardona is one of the many gargoyles that serves as Quasimodo’s thoughts, his own personal voice. Honestly, I thought the official cast recording with Michael Arden made me cry -- but watching Castille and Cordona perform “Out There” and “Made of Stone” is a religious experience.
Deaf representation matters.
