Stiles nodded and smiled again, his teeth flashing brightly and he signed something again, before looking frustrated with himself.

“You’re welcome,” Derek told him, feeling a wave of relief when Stiles’ face brightened. That would’ve been awkward if Stiles hadn’t been trying to say thank you.

“I had a really good time, so yeah. I’m glad you came with me,” he said, feeling his face grow hot. Derek wasn’t usually like this. He wasn’t confident. Sure, he had the looks and he could flirt shamelessly when he got hit on, but he always got shy around the people he genuinely liked, not that there was too many of those.

But Stiles didn’t let him dwell on that. He gripped Derek's arm, grinned cheekily and pointed at himself before lifting two fingers. It took a while for Derek to get it but when he did, he couldn’t stop a smile from spreading across his face.

‘You? Teach Derek? That’s funny.’

‘You think I can’t teach? I taught you sign!’

‘No,’ Cora laughs, ‘Scott taught me sign. You signed at me without writing what you were singing or anything, and I was forced to play the most intense game of charades in my life. I learned sign because I video chat with Scott every few nights and looked up a bunch of videos.’

“Oh, right! Uh, Derek, this is my best friend, Stiles.” She pulls back and starts to move her hands around as she speaks.” Stiles, this is my big brother Derek, the one I was telling you about.”

The kid moves his hands back at her, mouthing words but never speaking. He’s not sure he understands what’s going on.

“He said it’s nice to meet you. He’s heard a lot about you.” Cora says. Derek frowns.

“What?”

“He’s Deaf.” Laura says, tapping you pointer finger to the corner of her mouth and her ear. “You know, like can’t hear? At all? He signs.”

Same but Deaf

AU Idea:

Deaf!Stiles

Where everything is pretty much the same but Stiles is deaf. Where as kids Scott was the only one in class that just kind of understand what Stiles was saying even wthout words or help from the interpreter. Where as they grew up Stiles taught Scott sign language and Scott becomes his interpreter. Where Scott teaches Stiles how to speak when he decides he wants to learn so he can talk to Lydia Martin, but quickly gives up on the idea when he realizes Scotts the only one that understands him. Where Scott loves everytime Stiles speaks just because he knows how self-conscious his friend is of his voice. Where Stiles loves that Scott always signs everything people say even though both know Stiles is a master lip reader. Where both are a little bit (a lot) in love with each other (but thats canon).

So I was looking for a FIC that something happens (I really can't remember what) and leave stiles deaf, and he has to learn the ASL and Derek helps him out, because someone in his family was deaf, and Peter wants Derek to turn stiles and Deucalion wants to kill Derek or him, can't remember.
