Dean was raised by a pastor/preacher and also grew up having queer thoughts about men. He was aware that it wasn't ideal, made obvious by his father. He already lacked privacy but he was under far more surveillance and punishment when his father found out about it

He's got a lotta daddy issues, seeking validation from men, sometimes older but they can be around his age too. Though he's also a closeted and repressed gay man, so it's a mix of his attraction and his parental issues

He grew up with a lot of anger issues, getting into a lot of fights with kids and causing his parents to move twice, his father severely punished him

When he's trying to hide his anger, Dean blanks out, staring at nothing or behaving far more monotone as he tries to collect himself. If he's pushed further than that, he might lash out and attempt a fight.

His mother introduced him to smoking, her solution to his anger. It doesn't fix all of his issues, but its something he's grown dependent on to disguise his obsessive tendencies and terrible temper, he'll occasionally chain smoke if he's having a harder time in hiding

He works with another guard who was the one he was latching onto at the the time, but their relationship is awkward because he often shits on Dean for fun, but their both pretty isolated by the team so they have to take solace in each other

He also had a girlfriend who later left him because of how closed off he is about his job and emotions. He never fully opened up to her and she could feel it
