Climbing out of his own damn grave was almost as much of a trauma for Dean as Hell had been. Almost.

He started feeling more functional against once he had washed some of the grim off, and chugged about three water bottles and downed maybe six snack bars. It felt as if he hadn’t eaten in years.

Then he reconnected with Bobby--with some predictable demon-testing and tension. And together, they put in the work to track down Sam’s cell phone, making the overnight drive to where he was and pulling into the hotel lot in front of the room number that the clerk had grudgingly given Dean over the phone.

He stopped outside of the door, eyes widening as the hair on his arms seemed to stand on end. Someone else was in there along with Sam--and they weren’t human.

Dean stepped forward, alert and suddenly struck with fear. He knocked hard and sharply, then stepped back, waiting for Sam to answer.
