You had to say the past week had been, well, something else. Your birthday was on Sunday so of course your big brothers decided that everyday they’d ask the same goddamn question you began to hate so much: “Who’s birthday is on Sunday?”. It was stupid really but the thought of your birthday was almost unbearable to withstand. It was hard to explain why you hated that date so much, you didn’t hate being alive it was just that good things didn’t tend to happen on your birthday and them reminding you of it wasn’t helping. You had managed to keep your composure for the entire week, well, almost. Everything was going okay until Saturday, the second you woke up the anxiety was already heavy inside your stomach, the stress from the next day was very present. Slowly you lifted yourself from the bed preparing yourself for the inevitable question you were to be asked.
You walked calmly into the kitchen and began preparing yourself a cup of coffee, suddenly you felt a presence behind you and you tensed up turning around grabbing the person by their collar and putting a fist to their face. Immediately you realized it was your older brother Damn, anxiety and hunter instincts really don’t mix well.
“Hey, hey, hey. It’s just me chill.” Said Dean giving you a scared look knowing your strength and what would’ve happened if you’d just punched him without hesitating.
“Oh crap, sorry De.” You said as you let go of your big brother and straightened his shirt where you had grabbed him. You cringed internally as you anticipated the question, you began counting, waiting for the moment.
“Hey! Who’s birthday is tomorrow?” You heard Sam coming in from the hallway and the second you the last words escaped his lips you broke down. All the composure and patience you’ve had the entire week was gone. Suddenly every single memory from you past birthdays flooded into your brain like a someone pulled out the plug keeping everything inside.
“Y/N? Y/NN, what’s wrong?” Asked sam concerned he had done something to cause this.
“I’m- I’m sorry, excuse me.” You nearly sobbed, moving them away and running into your room. You didn’t want to face your past, not now at least. You laid on your bed for who knows how long, reminiscing on every single thing in your life. It confused you how your siblings weren’t the type to get excited over birthdays unless of course, it was yours. As always it was time for your brothers to come in and try to help you which they usually did, but this time you didn’t think they could. So you heard as the door to your room creaked open to reveal your brothers, your face against the pillow you only heard and felt them sit down next you.
“You wanna talk?” Said the person you could only describe as Sam as he put his hand on your back.
“Come on Sammy you already know the answer to that.” You said curtly as your tears began to dry on your cheeks.
“Doesn’t hurt to try though. So tell us what’s wrong, cause you know that if you don’t tell us now we’ll get it out of you somehow.” He said, and you knew he was right. It always ended like that; you hesitated before flipping over and sitting up.
“I-ugh. I just really don’t like my birthday.” You said looking down at your hands.
“Why?” Asked your eldest brother Dean.
“Because not very good things have happened on my birthday De. Don’t you remember?” upon hearing silence you continued, “My mother died when I was 6, so I was put into foster care, on my 7th birthday my foster parents ended up being freakin’ mauled by vampires, Dad finds me and so on until he leaves, then we find him and he too dies on my birthday. It’s like I’m bad luck…” You finished, tears leaking out once again from your eyes.
“Y/N. Don’t ever say you’re bad luck ever again. You are the everything but bad luck Yeah, you’ve gone through stuff but all that just brought you to us. We won’t ever let those things happen to you again, do you understand?” Said Dean reassuringly to you.
“yeah.” you answered softly.
“Y/N/N we love you so so much, you have made our lives smooch better and brighter. I remember when Dad first brought you I was so happy. I remember how you left us surprised the first time you hunted because of how good you were, I remember how you won the spelling bee at your school. Those are the memories you should remember, you’ve helped us both so much and I hate that you think your bad luck.”
“Thank you Sammy, I love you both.” You said wiping away your final tears.
“Hey, what do you say if tomorrow morning I’ll make you your favourite breakfast. We can do whatever you want.” Sammy asked you lovingly.
“Yeah, that sounds good. But right now, I need my coffee” You said and you all laughed and got up ready to continue your day, your lives.

*Sam and Dean’s POV*
It’s been two days since they grabbed your journal, yet they couldn’t get themselves to open it. They wanted to help you, they wanted to know what had happened the night you stopped talking, but they knew it was wrong, and they knew you’d be mad. They were relieved when they noticed you hadn’t asked them anything about the journal, but time was ticking before you did.
Three days, four days, passed and you didn’t seem to wonder where your journal was. You did misplace things all the time, maybe you had replaced it, yeah maybe you did that they thought. As the days passed the brothers were being eaten by the thoughts of what was in the journal. They had managed to move them aside by doing other stuff such as research for hunts, or fixing things, or whatever they managed to think of doing. It was a good system, it worked for the most part and made them get things done, until it didn’t. Once everything was done, the thoughts creeped back from the back of their minds and invaded every part of their brains. The fifth day passed before their eyes, and they couldn’t resist. They knew you’d be pissed if, or rather when you find out. But it’d be worth it, right?
They waited until they knew you were asleep, and proceeded to lock themselves in Dean’s room.
“Dean, what if she finds out?” Sam asked his older brother skeptically of what they were about to do.
“Then she finds out, this is the only thing between us and finding out what happened to our sister.” He answered back, but deep inside he didn’t know if they should do it too.
“Fine.” He sighed out reluctantly, and watched as Dean moved to his nightstand and grabbed the journal. When he first found it he gave it to Dean, he had to say he was surprised he hadn’t already gone throughout the entire damn thing already,
“Okay, here it is. Shall we?” He said gesturing for them to sit on the bed. They both moved towards it and sat down. They looked at each other before finally open the journal, it felt like years of waiting for this exact moment. It was like the forbidden fruit and they had just bit into it. The first page was made up of only three few words. “How could I?” Dean read out slowly from the worn out page.
“What does that even mean?” Sam asked confusedly at his brother, as if he was to know.
“Guess we’ll have to keep on reading to find out.” He said, returning to the book. He flipped the page to find the second. This time it was a drawing, it pictured a bloody knife in a dark room and a few unrecognizable figures in the back. They both frowned upon seeing this, and decided to continue to search through the pages. Dean flipped the page and found another drawing, this time of a werewolf with large teeth and bright red eyes.
“Okay maybe it’s about the hunt. We did hunt werewolves.” Sam said looking at Dean, slowly they were uncovering the truth about their sister. They flipped each page, in all finding something different but all pointing that it was just about the hunt.
After around half an hour of looking through the journal they were about to give up. Everything they had seen was a colossal mess of bloody drawing and sketches and the occasional small and vague phrase, such as “they were people.” or “they had lives too.”
“This makes no sense. All this is just saying that it was something in the hunt. She hunts all the time, why’d this one affect her so much.” Dean said sighing in frustration at finding nothing.
“Look Dean, all we really know is that we went to where the pack was, got trapped, we were separated and taken to cell blocks while she was left with them. And when we got out everyone was dead” He said grabbing the small leather book from his brothers hands, “Anything could have happened while we weren’t there. I say we should keep on looking.” He said flipping through the pages until something caught his eye.
“What? What is it?” Dean inquired curiously seeing as Sam stayed silent.
“They died because of me. They had lives to live, families to love, goals to reach and I ripped that from them.” Sam read aloud, glancing at Dean.
“So? I mean yeah she feels guilty she couldn’t save the people, but we’ve all been there.” Dean said tired he was done reading about how you were hurting so much. He was tired of not being able to fix you.
“That’s not all it says.” Sam said looking back towards the page. “I don’t know how it happened, it was so quick. I could have actually saved them, if only I would have stopped. But I couldn’t.” Sam finished reading and flipped the page again, and read “They gave me a choice, the people or them. I was so selfish.” he finished reading and closed the journal, setting it aside.
“Do you think she..? She wouldn’t.. right?” Dean mumbled softly. Suddenly they both started to add up everything. It was like all of a sudden everything they knew about their sister was wrong.
“I mean anything can happen.” Sam answered back thinking, could they be wrong? But everything they read and saw added up to this.
“I-I think we should go to sleep.” Dean said after a while of silence, he just wanted to be alone maybe with some whiskey.
“Yeah, um, goodnight.” Sam said putting the journal aside and moving from the bed, towards the door and left.
*Your POV*
The next day when they woke up you were worried, you were looking everywhere nervously. You had lost the journal you wrote everything in, at first you thought you had misplaced it and didn’t really mind until you began to think of everything that could have happened to it.
“What’s wrong?” Sam said not really looking you in the eye, you thought it was strange but you just pushed the feeling aside, your journal was important right now.
You found a piece of paper and a pencil and wrote down what you were looking for. Sam saw it and he looked scared for a second.
“Uh, no. No why’d I know where it was. Maybe you misplaced it.” He said nervously looking away. Strange. Suddenly you heard footsteps coming from behind and you turned around.
“You looking for this.” Dean’s gruff morning voice said, it was clear he had been drinking you could see it all over his face, but that wasn’t important at the moment. What was important was that your older brother had your journal in his hands, and he looked mad. You reached towards the book before he yanked it away from you and put it over his head.
“Dean?” Sam’s voice said confused, they hadn’t talked about confronting you, but Dean was clearly drunk and angry and was not thinking straight.
Dean looked at Sam having a short mental conversation with him before looking back at you, his face was laced with sadness and anger and a hint of disappointment. You could tell he looked through the journal, and Sam was involved in it too, and you knew that what they saw was not good.
“I’ll give you back your journal if you answer this one question.” He said moving closer to you, you could smell the whiskey, grease and blood that stained his old worn out shirt. You looked at him fearful of what he wants to know. “Did you kill those people?”
