October 17th - Lord Death Man
Death Man was originally a criminal from Gotham City who claimed to be immortal. He battled Batman and Robin on a number of occasions and on multiple instances appeared to die; only to reappear seemingly resurrected some time later. Batman ultimately deduced that Death Man was using a specialized form of yoga to enter into a death-like state, slowing his respiration and heart rate to a near standstill. Some time thereafter, Death Man actually acquired immortality. Renaming himself Lord Death Man, he traveled to Tokyo as part of an effort to kill all of the established super heroes of Japan. He succeeded in murdering the hero, Mr. Unknown, and tried to do the same with Mr. Unknown’s protégé, Jiro. With the aide of Batman and Catwoman, Jiro was able to defeat Lord Death Man. Knowing that no prison (including death) could contain Lord Death Man, Batman had the villain placed in a pod and launched into outer space. Death Man first appeared in the pages of Batman #180 (1966) but is likely better known as being the central antagonist in Jiro Kuwata’s Batman manga series.

Not much is known about the mysterious and stylish Lord Death Man, except that his criminal exploits have made him a sensation in both Gotham City and his homeland(?) of Japan. A supremely skilled yoga master, Lord Death Man can put himself in and out of a trance of seeming death in order to make his escape...or do his abilities extend even beyond that?
