Another fan comic for Death Mark, because I really fell in love with this game series and it's characters!! This time it's an idea of my own, playing in the setting of the second game. This idea just came to me out of the blue and the story developed spontaneously while I kept drawing - so please excuse any discrepancies should there be any. I'm not good at story writing but I tried my best to hopefully create an enjoyable short story.
There will be a lot more pages coming to this story - too long for one post - that's why I've split it into several parts. The story focuses mainly on Yashiki and Mashita, but a lot of the other Mark bearers will make an appearance, too.
Sadly, I can't guarantee that I will finish this story because I haven't figured out yet how to "write" the ending. I really don't want to leave this unfinished but I'm not good at writing complete stories so we'll see if inspiration strikes or not. At least there's a lot more to come from this point on.
Thanks for taking a look! :)

And here's finally the loooong last part of this comic project! It's a weird feeling to finally reach the end, after all these months. But I'm especially proud of how these pages turned out! ^.^ They somehow look so much better compared to all the others! As I already mentioned this is a collaboration with my friend MoonflowerSong. Actually, it is thanks to her that this part even exists, as she was the one to got me into this shipping with her wonderful Yashita Fanfictions! She helped me immensely with this part when I was struggling (I'm better at dramatic stuff than fluff tbh ^^'). So, while the art was done by me, the whole script behind this part is her work, apart from some tiny adjustments/additions. So I want to thank her one more time for that, and give another shoutout for her works! I'm gonna put a link to her AO3 profile at the bottom, go check her works out if you're interested, they're super sweet! Also again, and sadly for the last time, I want to express my gratitude to everyone reading, liking and/or reblogging this project, especially the ones who left comments!! I don't think I would have come this far without the motivational boost from you, as usually my motivation to work on longer project drains very quickly. So, thank you so much for joining and supporting me on this ride! <3 <3 I am glad that there is some people who enjoyed this random story idea! Though, this will not be my last post for Death Mark for sure! I will draw more art for this fandom, just no comic anytime soon, I need a break after this one. xD
Sooo, after all this rambling, about this part: Yashiki and Mashita have finally become a couple, hooray!! I think the comic explains it all, but to be sure here's a quick summary: Yashiki has had feelings for Mashita for a while, but wasn't aware of them. Though, when he was under the Departed's curse, locked inside his own thoughts in some kind of semi-conscious state, he had a lot of time to think about himself and his life. After he started sensing the emotions of his friends around him when they visited him in the hospital - especially Mashita's - Yashiki became aware of these feelings and finally figured out their meaning, while also realizing how similar they felt to what he picked up from Mashita. After yashiki woke from the coma and was recovered enough, he felt the need to talk about it with Mashita as soon as possible. After all this time he had spent thinking about how to confess to him, Yashiki wanted to get these words out before he'd loose his confidence.
In the end, neither of them realized they had been watched the whole time by two nosy teenagers. Keeping the change in their relationship a secret will be impossible now, as I'm sure the news will spread quickly among the Mark Bearers. xD I actually had planned to give Daimon a last appearance here, catching the girls spying and shooing them off. But this part already got longer than anticipated and this actually seemed to be a good point to end it on, so I left it there.
Thank you again for reading! Hope you all have a nice week! I will be back, probably next weekend, with new Death Mark art.
Thanks for taking a look! :)

[Personal thoughts/review on this project: I am amazed how much drawing this comic has helped me improve my art skills in several fields! It might not be visible for some, but I clearly feel the change. I can really recommend to give it a try, especially artists who are struggling to improve! Not only does it keep you in a drawing routine, but it also forces you to go out of your comfort zone for some poses or perspectives you want to depict. And lastly it is also very fun and satisfying to get a story idea onto paper and see the results! ^^]
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Epilogue Bonus
I'm back with another part, and as promised it's longer than last time! ^^ Thanks so much to everyone who left comments, they're very appreciated, as always!! <3 And thanks to everyone in general who's still reading this!!
So, with this part we close the Departed's case, but not the comic - there's still two more parts coming! As in the good ending of the game, the two girls Kinukawa and Doryou survived, they're unconscious in this scene but otherwise unharmed. The curse of the Departed has been lifted, thus everything goes back to normal and the marks on Yashiki also have disappeared. I just couldn't resist to add a little bit of drama, for the last time in this comic. Hope I didn't go over the top here, though. ^^' But the idea that Mashita is so worried and out of it that he almost suffocates Yashiki while tightly hoding him close just came to mind and wouldn't leave me. I'm sure you already guessed it but the reason why it takes Yashiki a while to wake up is because his body is pretty exhausted after everything. But he'll be okay now!
I hope I did Mashita's character justice here. I figured he might be a bit "embarassed" about showing a vulnerable side of him in front of the others and tries to cover it up. Also, he IS still angry that Yashiki went into danger alone again and now that the danger has passed these thoughts/emotions are coming back to the surface. These are my excuses/explanations for his angry speech here anyway. Yashiki of course feels sorry to have worried his friends, but the Mark Bearers know him well and cut his attempt to apologize short. In the end, exhaustion catches up to Yashiki's weakened body and forces him to get his well needed rest. But he's in good hands, Daimon will make sure he'll get plenty of care and rest! ^^
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this part! Next will be the epilogue, hope to see you there!
Thanks for taking a look! :)
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Epilogue Bonus
Thanks again to everyone who's writing these nice commentaries in their tags!! <3 I'm happy to see that there's a few people who enjoy this idea!! Thank you for sticking with the story so far, I hope to not disappoint!
This part is actually the main one that gave this comic it's title "Only Human". I guess it's already clear at this point that one important theme in this story is Mashita's struggles with the situation. I was hoping to convey this in the beginning of this scene. Mashita is currently not doing good. The (temporary!) loss of Yashiki at his side, as a partner and friend, has hit him harder than he'd admit. He struggles to focus on his task. His usual clear and sharp mind is clouded with worry and fear. Even Mashita - the clever and brilliant Ex-detective - is still only a human and struggling like everybody else at some point in life. I'm afraid it get worse before it gets better, but I promise I have planned a good ending for everyone! Yashiki has to suffer a little bit longer, but he will be okay eventually!
I really hope the "dream" part was not too confusing! It feels a bit rushed now that I look at it... ^^'
Also, on a side note: I want to point out that I don't know a thing about modern medicine or how coma patients are actually treated. So please excuse any inaccuracies!
Thanks for taking a look! :)
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 14 Part 15 Epilogue Bonus
Another part for the weekend! This story is slowly coming to an end. There's gonna be four more parts (or rather two, plus epilogue and a bonus chapter) before the story is finished. A big thank you for everyone still reading this!!! <3 I've noticed readers have become less it seems, but I'm glad there's still people left who enjoy this story idea! Your comments mean so much to me, it's always the highlight of the week, so thank you so much for taking the time to write them!! <3 <3
This plays right after leaving the mind-space scene and Mashita finds himself back into reality, still running from The Departed. And now he has finally found a use for the frog it seems! x'D In case it wasn't clear to see, it had been in Daimon's poket. He managed to grab the frog before he got attacked by the Departed but wasn't able to use it in time. I know this is probably not the greatest idea I've come up with but I needed to find a solution to continue with the story before I lost my motivation to work on this. Also, that scene was meant to be funny, to cheer up the atmosphere a little bit, with all the drama that has been around (not quite done yet with the drama, though! :D).
Of course The Departed is less than amused to be assaulted by a "frog-bullet". (btw in case anyone's wondering, the frog is fine. A bit shocked, but not hurt.) They are ready for their final attack, hopefully everything goes according to plan...
I hope you enjoyed this part! Next time the pacification will happen. Also, about that - I wanted to give just a little warning beforehand: Please don't expect too much, it will probably feel a bit flat, but hopefully not too unsatisfying. I don't want anyone to get disappointed, so this site note as a small preparation for next time. Anyway, I hope you'll have a great week. Until next time!
Thanks for taking a look! :)
Part 1 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Epilogue Bonus
Here is the next part for this fan comic, and there is many more to come! I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of positive feedback in tag comments to part one and I want to say thank you to these people!! I was so happy when I read those - such positive feedback keeps me motivated and makes all the hard work on this so much more worth it! So in case anyone reads this, a special thanks to all these people for their nice words in their reblog tags!! <3
I got so much more stuff planned for this comic story! I'm a bit nervous about this, hopefully everyone will like where this goes... Also, I'm sorry for the cliffhanger at the end but I had to... ^^' But the wait for the next part won't be too long. I'm planning to post 1 story part every 7 days (or 14 days at max).
Thanks for taking a look! :)
