One of my favorite headcanons is that Masamune was a chuunibyou for a brief period before he got so embarrassed that he fully retreated into his shell and became an extreme introvert XD

In this comic the memories were so repressed that Yashiki doesn't remember them even now, but he does have a subconscious reaction to embarrassing chuunibyou behavior as we see with his difficulty tolerating Haruaki Abe. I love their interactions in Shibito Magire so that is the primary inspo for this comic (ignore that I put Death Mark instead of Death Mark 2 in the first panel 😭)

Brief explanation of the timeline: Basically Mashita saw Masamune five years ago shortly before his mentor died pursuing the honey bee case. Masamune had gone to the police station while he was searching for more information on Mary–in particular about the underground shelter–since his father had been close with the police chief. However upon arriving he discovered that the chief his father knew had passed away and the new one was dismissive of him and refused to cooperate. Growing increasingly frustrated, he snapped at the new chief and stormed out, much to Mashita’s amusement.

It is worth noting that Mashita did not conceal what little he knew maliciously here, rather his instinct told him it would be irrelevant and only confuse yashiki (also he didn't hear anything besides “fools” lol). If yashiki knew his former self was at the police station he would investigate it needlessly and waste valuable time. Additionally this new chief was corrupt and took bribes from criminals and was likely responsible for getting Mashita fired over sexual harassment claims. He knew from personal experience that it would go nowhere.
