Deathgrippers are cool dragons

I'm still pissed about Toothless killing them at the end though, like, wtf happened to "Good dragons under the control of bad people do bad things."?????

Like, I get that it was in self defence BUT THE WRITERS COULDN'T PICK ANYTHING ELSE TO DO INSTEAD????

I swear, they're the only good part of HTTYD 3

Deathgripper fursuit wip :)

Didn't have thin enough foam for the bottom eyelids, so I went with fleece. It'll look less out of place when the rest of the fleece is on! Also still debating what to make tusks out of, so they're not in yet.

dragon eaters get such a bad rep in this series, but they play such a vital role in their ecosystem

common dragons like gronckles, nadders, etc produce large nests of eggs and are top predators in their system. if left unchecked, the wild population would devastate lesser animal populations in their search for food

so dragon eaters such as deathgrippers, changewings, and death songs help curb the wild populations of these dragons while they themselves produce offspring at a much slower rate

plus they look cool as hell

I have so many that I absolutely adore, but my top favs are Deathgrippers (as you can tell from my profile), Scuttleclaws (MY BABIES), Singetails (PANCAKE BOISS), and Snaptrappers :3

Based on your uh... profile I can tell you really like deathgrippers. Any particular reason for that?

OMG OMG OMG AN EXCUSE TO TALK ABOUT DEATHGRIPPERS???? All jokes aside, Deathgrippers are my favorite for a lot of reasons. 1. They should have been handled better. SUper scary dragon eating dragons and for what??? To get electrocuted and brushed aside?? I THINK NOT!! MOVE OVER GRIMMEL ILL TREAT THEM BETTER THAN YOU EVER COULD 2. I absolutely adore their design. Scorpion/mantis death dragon? I think yes. And the retractable tusks and tail? HNGGG ITS SO GOOD 3. I feel like if they weren't constantly drugged they would act similar to a wolf/dog, and big giant murder puppies would be awesome. 4. I don't feel like enough people love them (The urge to love the unloved is strong)

Deathgrippers have a pretty poor sense of smell, but they have an extremely wide range of vision and are excellent and picking up movement. This is why one of the signs of an agitated Deathgripper is wide eyes, because they're keeping an eye out for potential hazards or predators.

Baby deathgrippers have an even wider range of vision than the adults. They are also more vibrant and brightly colored so that adults can keep track of them. Babies have venom, but it doesn't develop into its full potency until roughly 2 years old. This also aligns with scale development. Babies are born with their exoskeleton but without scales. They are also born with small-flightless wings that are covered completely by their wing shells. They start to be able to fly short distances around one year old, and they reach their full wingspan at six years. A deathgripper is considered fully grown after ten years, but will continue to grow up until they die.

Deathgrippers are pack hunters, and they live their whole lives, generally in the same pack. Packs are typically made up of several family groups together. Each pack is generally ruled by one or two females who make decisions about where to nest, what to hunt, and where to travel.

Deathgrippers don't sleep for long periods of time. They typically take 1-2 hour naps throughout the day in small groups with a handful of other Deathgrippers serving as lookouts. Very few dragons prey on Deathgrippers but they will usually wake up the pack if something they can hunt wanders by.

Deathgrippers NEVER sleep on their backs. It's incredibly uncomfortable and it can be impossible for them to get back up again. A deathgripper on their back is likely in extreme distress and if it is safe to do so, should be righted immediately and examined for any injuries or signs of disorientation.
