Every single "immortality is bad" or "death is good" story is just sour grapes. At best they're a psychological crutch, useful to aid accepting something that is as yet inevitable.
But as biotechnology improves, and as the possibility of ending that inevitability increases, they will very quickly stop being useful. I hope we can abandon those stories before they hamper us.
(And as for the arguement that "death is natural"... well, so was Smallpox.)
@death-ism asked: “ i’m proud of you.” gentle had death been to the poor, sweet soul before him when he found angry form broken, defiled by the hand of another mindless godling parading among the humans as heroes of old. gentle was he once more in the face of a champion lauding his wins over even the prince of this domain like a true golden hero.
this laurel — for once — was very well deserved.

It came as a great surprise for the god of sleep to ask for an autograph from him, bringing him his first hint that there are gods that look upon him favourably. That was something that he took in his stride at the time, but processed later alone.
His work here, his efforts, they really are making progress. People see beyond his appearance and his history. They see who he is, how he fights now, and that is their focus. It gives him a great sense of pride.
To now hear it from Thanatos, that hit Asterius at a deeper level. Lord Thanatos had been the first one to see him as truly himself. A shade crying with relief upon the floor below him, not even knowing what this was or who Thanatos was, but just knowing that this was death. This was peace. The anger, the hunger, finally subsiding.
How naive he was then to think that was the end, but Death let him have such peace for a little while. For that he had always been grateful.
Now here he is, before Death again but this time displaying a laurel of victory in shining turquoise and bronze, stronger than ever he had been. He nods his head in acknowledgement of the words then gives a little respectful bow of the head.
"Thank you, Lord Thanatos. I appreciate your words. I take it you watched the fight. I hope you thought it entertaining." The usual crowd thought so, and he was pleased for that. Seeing his banners wave in celebration today as he delivered the final blow to the short one.
Alternate timeline where the CIA claims it has evidence that death gives meaning to life, and the US uses this as justification to invade Iraq.
