Speech & Presence
Yama are beings of few words, but no wasted ones.
One never leaves a Yama unchanged
They state truth, and allow the soul to reckon with it.
The Cycle of Reincarnation
Yama do not bear children.
When a Yama dies physically, the role is preserved through a unique cycle:
Death is rare, but on that occasion, the individual Yama is reincarnated instantly as an infant.
The remaining six Yama raise and train the child collectively
Death-training begins extremely young, woven into play and ritual. Life and death are not opposites to the Yama. They are the same, just presence versus absence of the sacred breath.
Temperament
Yama are:
Calm
Unyielding
Compassionate without indulgence
Neutral without cruelty
They experience the full spectrum of existence without grief or attachment.
Role in the Serpent Calling
The Yama are the final safeguard against Schaccath’s corruption of the Breath of Life. His greatest danger is not power, but misattribution—convincing beings that judgment, choice, or consequence belong to him.
The Yama exist to refute that lie.
