anime reviews!!: Death Note
I’ll get straight to the point: I really loved this show. I thought the characters where dimensional and interesting while the plot and events that take place to be even more fascinating. I’ve always loved psychological thrillers and I think this show definitely makes the mark. It usually takes me a while to get into new shows but I got into this pretty quickly.
To give a quick summary, the show follows Light Yagami, a high school student, as he picks up a Death Note. This note can kill people when their name is written within it. Light uses this notebook to serve justice and create a “new world”. Of course, this isn’t as simple as it seems.
I think the portrayal of the different characters was excellent; the voice actors are incredibly talented (I watched dub and a little bit of it in sub for the tik tok memes hehe). Light’s character is complex and its interesting to hear his thought process in the show. Same goes for L’s character.
The symbolism and references in the show are god tier. Literally. The show makes a lot of references to the Bible to allude to future events and make comparisons. There is symbolism with colors as well to show changes within a character or place. This shows how detailed and layered Death Note is.
I liked the animation and music as well. They certainly add to the vibe of the show.
