anime reviews: parasyte
I watched this anime because it was on my list for a while and when I found out it was made by the same studio as deathnote, I knew I had to watch it. There are definitely similarities between the animation and the dark psychological thriller genre. Both animes explain heavy topics through an entertaining and interesting story (more on this later in the review).
Hereās a brief and short overview of the story:
The story is about a world where parasites inhabit humans, usually taking control of their brains. These parasites then feed on other humans, leading to murder and violence. However, the main character is left with a parasite inhabiting his right arm, as the parasite failed to merge with his brain. This is the initiator for the rest of the plot.
I loved the characters in this story. The main character, Shinichi Izumi, is incredibly likable and I can see many people relating to him. Heās sensitive with a strong sense of morality, making him a perfect character when exploring topics relating to what it means to be human. I find that this show is a discourse on humanity. You will find that it questions our existence, purpose, and place in this world. The battle between emotionless parasites and humans show how empathy is an important part of our existence. These themes carry on throughout the series.
I genuinely enjoyed this series and would especially recommend it to those that enjoy psychological and existential shows.
8/10
