“You really are a very interesting thing, you know that?” Jack knew, of course, but Agatha was in something of a complimentary mood which she hoped the vampire would take advantage of -- well, complimentary in that she quite desired a few questions to be answered. 

“Now, if you would please sit? There is so much to discuss. I have found a delightful new book, you see.”

He had no clue at all how his coffee mug had made its way into this stranger’s hands. Or how this strange coffee mug with actual coffee in it was in his. Things like this never got past him. He was always overly protective of his mug. How the hell..?

“Very funny. You won’t like my coffee, though. Don’t drink it.”

“Won’t I?” His eyes took on a peculiar glint, one that matched his teeth. Long fingers curled around the stolen mug, save one that tapped against the side. He hadn’t looked yet, but the warning took root in a mind that was all too fertile. Why? Was it cheap? Had he witlessly traded for inferiority? 

“What if I smell it?” His expression didn’t falter.

                 “I think that’s a very clever joke.” He couldn’t help but laugh at the other man’s jest. “You know, I’ve always heard there’s usually a hint of truth behind humor, though. Did you come up with it on your own or did something like that actually happen before?” Carlisle was interested in hearing the story behind how it came about, if there was one.

It was nicer than she’d expected to have a ‘work friend.’ It wasn’t a surprise to recieve an invitation to spend a quiet Monday evening grading with Jack. Jane had guessed that it would be easier to focus when someone could keep you on track, and she’d been mostly right. They had worked steadily for a few hours, at least until the enviroment itself decided to interrupt them. 

Jane heard her coleague calling out to someone, but Jane couldn’t even hear other footsteps in the dark around them. Surely someone was in this library besides them? Since he was already doing that, Jane dug into her bag for her phone, looking for her flashlight. Of course tonight was the night she’d forgotten it. “They can’t be closed.” She muttered. Half-blind, Jane groped along the table for her phone. “What time is it even? And where are the librarians?”

“Because anyone with a brain wouldn’t have managed to come this far.” Or maybe they would have. Von’ar knew he was dropping many signs and that too many hints would possibly lead to this as well. He needed to ensure that everything was taken care of decently and had to ensure he didn’t leave any loose ends.

The council rarely recruited, but when they did, they ensured to chose specific targets. Von’ar usually kept away from the process. Keeping himself to the shadows was easier than speaking. Easier than having to deal with his unfortunate circumstances (he hadn’t earned his appearance back yet, but he would).
