For some reason I decided I should make Deborah Madison’s shell beans with summer veggies even though we’re at the tail end of summer veggies out here. Like, the tip of the tail end. In fact, I had to use dried beans, soaked overnight, instead of fresh because there weren’t any (except for fava beans and I didn’t feel like dealing with them). I found everything else. It was good, but a little bland, which may have been partly less-flavorful end of season veggies. The basil purée was essential and delicious. I also think it might be better tomorrow, as the flavors gel together. I’ll have to try this again in July. Summer Pozole from Deborah Madison. I’ve actually never had pozole since it’s usually not vegetarian. So I don’t know how authentic this was. But it was tasty. The broth with the chiles in it was especially good. Big project for dinner tonight. Shell Beans and Summer Vegetables Stewed in Their Own Juices from Local Flavors by Deborah Madison. It wasn’t a difficult recipe, just time consuming. Luckily everything is chopped big, which helps. Everything just barely fit in the Dutch oven. It was really tasty and a little sweet from the squash and tomatoes. With the basil purée, it was especially delicious. I got fresh cranberry beans for the shelling beans and they were so pretty. Too many books

I’ve been sorting and shredding and discarding. Papers mostly, I’ve managed to jam up the shredder four or five times.

and I’ve even managed to sort out most if not all those random copies of recipes that have been accumulating in every basket or shelf…into binders between sheet protectors no less

And there are too many library books to deal with.. So I’m flipping through those that need to go and those that need to stay a bit. And this one.. Is too big to really deal with right now… And it’s veg.. And I’m not How many different ways is there really to cook a veg. I keep hoping everytime i go shopping that i will be met with some newly discovered veg… But usually not.

So Ive got three different mysteries going.. Trying to decide which ones get read which ones go back unfinished But i keep flipping thru the veg and finding intriguing recipes.. Like

..Spiced plum soup

…curried cauliflower and peas ( which is going to require some searching for obscure ing., like ground amchoor-green mango powder, and asafetida???

Do i really want to do that, or leave we’ll enough alone?

But sounds so good. And neither of these two recipes are anywhere googled

...and beetroot latkes? Which book was that in.. I seem to have lost it.. I luuuv beets.

I don’t know… I’m probably going to have to keep this book around a few more days.

At least till i get some more printer ink.
