#ThankfulThusday !!! 1st, unlike many #DaveRamsey superfans, I'm still undecided about the extent to which I should or should not care about my #CreditScore, especially for the sake of facilitating #HomeOwnership and not creating unnecessary home buying hurdles for myself. But I've also NEVER struggled with #ConsumerDebt or #CreditCardDebt (never even carried a balance) so this likley has something to do with my view. BUT a while ago I signed up for a travel card that had an annual fee after the first year. (To me, it was ABSOLUTELY worth the free trip to California to spend time with my fam, but ain't nobody got time for annual fees.) I meant to cancel the card before being charged the fee, but I forgot to do so; so last month, I got a statement of $59 for it. I also accidentally used the card thinking it was a different card for a recent car rental. 🙈️ I was thinking that I'd have to pay for the car rental, and the $59 before closing the card. I saw that I had some miles remaining and I calculated that if I DID have to pay the fee, it would be better to first redeem miles on the car rental purchase, and then I'd have $18 less to pay on the fee. But "something" 😊 told me to call and let them know that I wanted to close the account, and JUST #ASK if I could do so without paying the fee. So I asked them, and they said yes! 🙌 In the end: my car rental was #FREE, I paid #NoFee on the card, and they're sending me a check for the remaining miles. I call that a #win. Sometimes you just have to #ask. #AllTheyCanSayIsNo. #DebtFreeJourney #DebtFreeCommunity #DebtFreeSweetie (SIDEBAR - Are credit cards for everyone? No. I think it depends on the person. If it will own you, no. If you're going to spend money on things you normally would not solely for points or miles, no. If you're broke, no. I've always used a credit card like a debit card. If it's not in my account, I don't swipe. If I can't pay for it today, I don't swipe. It's really that simple. For me, a credit card has always been an avenue to build credit rather than an avenue to buy a new product. If you can't make that statement in all honesty to yourself, you probably shouldn't get a credit card.)
