with sleep: series 2 there is something about the loneliness and amount of empty space around the subject which reminds me of mags.  especially the way she is curled in on herself despite all the area around her.  she is making herself small instead.  the pillow is falling off the edge of the mattress,  the streets are barely covering her.  there is this feeling of complete vulnerability as well as that she doesn’t quite belong there.  somehow,  she looks both comfortable and out of place all at once. 

desperate is one of my favorite discoveries.  the lack of mouth of course which symbolizes her disability and lack of autonomy.  the way she is peeling her skin off but there is no trace of pain or discomfort in her eyes.  it reminds me of the way magnolia is dissociated from her body.  it gives this sense of trying to free herself from flesh that already feels dead.  there is hollow space beneath the skin being pulled off,  a hollowness which resonates with mags and how she sees her body as a tomb. 

asphyxiate is one which i identify with her disability and loss of autonomy as well.  i like the hands stuck in her lifeless mouth.  it gives this unsettling feeling and impression of how her voice was taken from her  (  both literally and figuratively  ).  content warning for physical abuse:  in addition, her handler jasper used to strangle her regularly.  he abused her in many ways but he had this fascination with trying to put her on the brink of death.  she finally killed him because of one of these instances.  so this piece also reminds me of that.

the smell of blood in the air is cloying-- for a minute, sadie thinks the source is herself.  a quick check of the nose, the eyes proves it’s not her.  it’s the atmosphere.  wherever it’s coming from, it makes her stomach heavy.  she tucks errant strands of hair behind her ear, tears her eyes away from sang-woo.  she doesn’t like anything about this.  her fingers tap together in an erratic rhythm.

[ god, can you believe the nerve of this motherfucker?  brings up something incredibly fucked and then asks me a question like that!  he’s-- something about him doesn’t make sense to me.  it’s a bad feeling, y’know? ]

sadie breathes out a long sigh, teeth clenching for a moment.  “ -- i gotta say.  i didn’t expect anything that was going to happen in my life.  least of all-- this. ”  this could mean a plethora of things: dying at a young age then coming back or staring death in the face at this current moment.  it should be worrying that sadie’s so comfortable with death.  unfortunately, she is.  “ you aren’t going to slit my throat and throw me in a gutter, are you?  i didn’t dress well enough for a death like that. ”

i don't know why, and i can't explain it, but he probably calls her killer. like, in a weirdly numb way. he doesn't even realize that it's an endearing phrase for her. it's strange, but he calls her that all the time.
