i've been doing a rewatch recently and am currently slogging thru s6. Much as he was pretty annoying and they claimed he wasn't Dean's, I would lose my shit if suddenly there was a healthy young man who was Michael's vessel and they were like "Oh, so Ben was his after all." I'm also pretty sure that Sam fathered a fair few kids during his soulless time. I really liked how originally the vessels were much more of a bloodline thing. Apologies if this makes no sense, i've been off tumblr for yrs.

Bringing back Ben and attaching him to Michael would be very interesting. There is potential to tie him to Mary’s sudden finding herself in her adult child’s life after they had basically been dead to her. There is a possible mirror in there somewhere. Ben would be 20 or older if he came back and Dean finding out he was his all along could have a strong impact and a mirror to Mary’s return pretty easily.

Dean hasn’t really been framed as paternal for awhile. Cas has pretty much taken that role over but Dean has been framed as being maternal most recently(and has been subtly for years before that). He’s even shown some interest in children. Him finding out Ben was his could be a really interesting part of that aspect of him. It could potentially expand on the theme of family in the show as well.

There are unfortunately a few issues with the sustainability of it. The best outcome I could see would be Ben being released from Michael and going back to his mother or going to college or something. The arc feels like it would probably end up fairly short since Michael would be in control. Dean would find out, he would have feelings and then it feels like it would just pan out. It sort of feels like it would end up a similar situation to what Gavin ended up with except with just leaving again. This doesn’t mean it wouldn’t have impact but outside of the initial shock and the potential Dean/Mary parallel extention, it would probably run its course in a few episodes.

Another issue is Sam, not because he would cause issues with it specifically but because Ben is pretty specifically Dean’s character and there isn’t much potential for Sam to tie into his arc as well as Adam did. The parallel of Lucifer vs Michael wouldn’t hold the same weight with Ben and Sam. The nephilim is another thing. It’s fairly implied that TFW will be interacting with the kid at some point and all that parental buildup will have some purpose for at least a time. There is some potential in tying that in with Ben, but it would probably be too many plot points unless they either made the arc short or they backlogged it to a different part of the series. It depends a lot on what happens to the nephilim. 

I also liked the bloodlines thing with vessels. It’s possible that angels can be tied to multiple bloodlines but I do think there is some retconning happening. It may still hold up for archangels though.

I do hope that whoever they choose for Michael’s vessel if he comes back is someone impactful. At this point though, I don’t know who it could be that would have an equal weight for Sam and Dean. It’s possible that they will go for someone more close to Dean since he used to be the vessel but then they’d have to balance that somehow on Sam’s side and I’m not sure how they could do that.

mitchell was basically the show for me too. i'll probably still try, but it seems a bit ridiculous when its basically just annie remaining, and only for one season. 

why do tv shows have to end? sometimes i just get way too attached :) :(

I feel bad because as soon as you said which series you were watching I was thinking.......wait for it. It killed me when it aired. x :-(

i even knew what was coming, cause i knew aidan turner was only in 3 seasons and i'd stupidly read a few spoilers

yet i still binge watched 3 seasons in 4 days and even though I KNEW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN i STILL WAS NOT PREPARED

ahhhhh thank you for letting my enjoy the ride though. is it worth watching the last 2 seasons?
