December @jilychallenge Prompt: "the power’s out and we’re snowed in, how on earth will we stay warm???" (Rated E) Partner: @tumbledfreckles
White flakes floated past the window in a slow, lazy waltz. Before, the calming holiday music floating in from their kitchen quietly fought the cheery voices from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in what seemed like a losing battle, but now the wayward notes seemed to be playing exclusively for the falling flurries. The small flecks of snow spun around one another as the wind blew by, their bright pinpricks a distracting contrast to the dark sky.
Lily pulled her open sweater tighter around her. The shared flat was chilly, but the mountain of blankets across her lap and the warm body beside her helped to cut through some of the bite in the air. Said body must’ve noticed she was a bit cold, because a warm arm wrapped around her, and pulled her more firmly against his side.
Warm lips followed and pressed firmly to the side of her head before they were ghosting along the shell of her ear, “Cold, Evans?” A slight shiver ran down her spine that had nothing to do with the temperature, and everything to do with the honeyed voice of the man beside her.
“A bit, yeah.” She turned toward James, and his hazel eyes were locked on her. That hint of mischief, an ever-present glint in his eye; that smile that seemed permanently etched onto his face, the one that lifted just the slightest bit higher on the left. There was barely any space between their heads, so close she could feel his breath on her cheek. Lily couldn’t help but glance at his lips again, watching as they widened in a way that tugged at her heart, like a magnetic pull toward him.

Since @adenei posted a snippet of her December @jilychallenge , I thought I’d post mine as well. Mine is called Frostsmitten.
James walked out the front of the ski lodge and met the small sedan. He could see a man and woman walking toward the door, having just handed their keys to the valet, and someone who was rummaging in the trunk.
“Mr. Evans. Ms. Evans. Happy Holidays. Can I help you with your bags?” James jogged down the steps and shook Craig Evans’s hand.
“James, good to see you again. I think we’re okay, but you could give Lily a hand.” Craig indicated over his shoulder. “She’s still trying to wrangle her bags.”
“You got it, sir.” Jame nodded back to the door of the resort. “My parents are holding court in there if you want to head in and say hi.”
James heard Craig chuckle as he walked toward the rear of the car. “Can I help you with tha–” James stopped as he came around the car and saw someone he definitely was not expecting. “You’re not fourteen.”
Lily turned around to face him with an amused but confused smile. “I’m not fourteen. Haven’t been in a half dozen years or so. Is that a problem?”
“No!” James swallowed, willing his heart to slow down. “Definitely not. I just thought you were.”
Lily’s head cocked to the side, and James found himself distracted by the way her auburn red hair flowed over her shoulder at the movement of her head. “We’ve never met before.”
James nodded slowly. “This is true.”
“And yet, you thought I was fourteen.” She bit her lips, clearly amused. James admired the way her white teeth dissected her red lips. “You clearly didn’t base this on seeing me, so–”
“The picture in your dad’s office.” James spoke quickly, finally understanding what she was implying. “I’ve seen you in that picture, and you look about fourteen.”
“Oh no.” She looked properly horrified now, which made James smile broadly.
“Oh, yes.”
Hi everyone,
As we are nearing the last month of the year we would like to inform you about the December Jilychallenge.
We loved seeing all your Jily messages, art, moodboards and holiday inspired fics, as well as the heartwarming full tree at the end of the month!!
We are excited to do something like last year again and we hope you are as well. (for a little taste and to see the tree fill up, check the tag #djac 2022) Our starting date this year depends on how many of you will want to participate, we plan to finish on the 31st!
Instructions :
To sign up, please fill out this google form before the first of December. In the form you'll find the deadlines for your works to be finished. We'll be in touch as soon through here or Discord, never hesitate to let us know if you need more time or if there's a special date you'd like your work to be released on. Everyone can pick from the prompt list, you can have as many as you like, combine them, ignore them, follow them to the letter. We welcome any festive jily fics so if you've got a holiday end of year tale you want to tell, don't hesitate if your exact idea has no prompt to fit it ;-)
This is not about rules but about having fun!
That being said if you’re writing a fic, the minimum words must be 100, and should only be a one shot. (or finished multi-chapter (for multichaps please contact us so we can figure out the best way to post them!)
If it’s an artwork/playlist/moodboard then… anything goes!
Week 1 (due before the 25th of November) Week 2 (due before the 3rd of December) Week 3 (due before the 10th of December) Week 4 (due before the 17th of December)
You can submit your work earlier, but since it will take us a bit of time to organise the calendar we ask you try not to submit later, don't hesitate to contact us should you need more time or if you think you want to do more than one creation in a certain week.
Please note that the sign up weeks could be very different from when your fic or artwork will be revealed.
The fics can be posted to the December Jily Calendar 2023 collection on AO3. For any help with posting don't hesitate to contact us. Once you've posted to the collection it might take a little while for your work to be accepted (we don't live on AO3... 😘 you can always let us know you posted. NB we can't reveal a draft, so please be sure your work is posted before the date of reveal) If you don't have an ao3 account please tell us so we can post your work as a part of the Calendar here on Tumblr. (send us a DM or ask) .
This got long... DLDR come join the fun in December!!
