December Event

You smiled as you went to the coffee shop and spotted Lydia and Jackson. It had taken some convincing but you insisted that the gift swap max price should be twenty dollars each.

You’d found Lydia some first edition books that she’d mentioned she’d like to find. You hadn’t found all of them but a fair amount for the price you’d gotten. For Jackson you’d find a soft scarf that was rather comfortable and you’d considered keeping for yourself. But you had wrapped them up and put them in your backpack. 

“We ordered your usual drink.” Jackson said as you sat with them. You were five minutes early and judging by the queue they must have been there for quite a while.

“Thanks. I can get you back for it.” You said as you set your bag down, took out the gifts and then fumbled for your wallet.

“No. It’s on us.” Lydia said with a smile. You thanked them again and shrugged it off.

“Ok. Let’s swap.” Lydia said eagerly. She slid one large present over to Jackson and several gifts over to you. Jackson did the same and you gave them your gifts. You were aware that your gifts seemed dwarfed by the piled they had set infront of you. Jackson’s gift from Lydia was a new laptop and Jackson’s gift to Lydia was the fancy perfume that she’d wanted. Both were well over the twenty pound limit.

“The price limit was 20 dollars!” You said as you watched Lydia open your gift and smile as she inspected the books. “Yeah. You’re spending twenty per person. We know.” Jackson said as he opened his gift from you. He seemed to like it and hurried to get Lydia to feel how soft it was.

“That is amazing. You found these for forty bucks?” Lydia asked as she showed off her books.

“Yeah.” You said quietly as you turned to your little mountain of presents that seemed to gather round your drink.

“You really need to show me how you get such good stuff. I tried to haggle with a book dealer and I only got one book for fifty.” Lydia muttered as she started to thumb through one of the books.
