It was not unheard of that Edgar would just start a conversation already mid-conversation. Especially around people he trusted and knew didn’t need a long-winded introduction to keep up with what he was saying. However, it was rather rare that he just showed up on their stoop without even sending an Owl first to announce his visit.

This, together with the lack of softness that typically surrounded his every feature, every word and every question-like opinion, it was obvious that Edgar was not here to philosophise. This was not the faithful, good-hearted, willing-to-believe-anything Edgar. This was the Edgar barely anyone ever got to see because he was buried beneath so many emotions he usually made sure to never even have.

Been a year since I hauled ass behind an ambulance as this man was transported to a facility for emergency/trauma surgery. All day been thinking of the right words to express my gratitude to still have Lyle with me. Those who know me remember how opposed to marriage I was, yet this bear of a weirdo changed my mind and thinking that after finally finding my person I’d have to face losing him so soon was more than I was prepared to contemplate. After spending overnight alone in the waiting room not even sure what was happening or where he was, this night/day will always be one of raw emotion in my world. Won’t sugar coat and say the past year was rainbows and love, frankly had been a shitshow, but through this I’ve learned so much about myself. About my husband. About our marriage, and about our capacity for love as humans. Thankful for this man, and that he is mine.
