You Have No Power Here (closed starter for decepti-karr)
“Excuse me miss, do you know the way to any nearby restaurants?”
A deep, aggravated sigh left Echo’s lips as her thumbs dug a bit into the pages of her book. It didn’t matter how many times she glamoured a human into leaving her alone or turning away, another always walked up. Her illusions kept her long, elvish ears, and her curved horns hidden at any given moment. She found it exhausting to keep up the illusion to humans that she wasn’t sitting on the park bench, and continued to just turn them away as they approached.
To say it was getting annoying was an understatement. She fixed the middle aged man with her blue stare, marking her place in her book with a leaf she had picked up. If she was going to get any peace, she would have to relocate, it seemed.
“You never saw me, and you are going to turn and continue to walk away from this area until you find another human to speak to.” Her words weaved magic into the air like a spider web, easily entangling the small, helpless fly that was the man’s mind. His eyes glazed over, and that familiar, doofy smile spread on his face that all humans got under fae glamour. To her, it long ago lost its charm.
Once the man had turned away, she sighed heavily and stuffed the book in her backpack, slinging it over her shoulders. She was too weary from travel to keep up an illusion of being invisible, and constantly turning humans away was even more exhausting. She began to walk into the parking lot past a row of–what did humans call them again? Cars? She found them to be somewhat fascinating, and continued to walk across the line of them, staring ahead as she did.
