Day 2
Ship: Ratchet x Deadlock
AUs: First Words, Decepticons Win
Somehow during the ongoing days of the war Autobot medic Ratchet and Decepticon Deadlock have never spoken to each other. After the Decepticons win this changes.
A deep frown was clearly visible to any and all Decepticons walking past Ratchet's cell, not that it surprised any bot. The Autobots had lost in the most catastrophic way.
Optimus Prime was captured, and the few Autobots that had survived were also caught. The Autobot medic had been one of the last mechs captured, and while not a front fighter, the ambulance was still a capable mech. Otherwise, he wouldn't have survived this long in this Primus forsaken war.
While various passing Decepticons tried to get a rise out of Ratchet, he simply continued to sit and frown. Unlike some of the younger and more reckless mechs, he preferred to have a plan before acting. It unsettled him to simply wait, but he knew that most of his comrades were offline, and wasn't that a painful thought? The young bots he had put back together so many times, simply gone and he knew should- no, when they escaped they would need a medic. So he had to wait, lie low, and make sure he was ready to assist whenever possible.
His forcefully optimistic planning was interrupted by another Decepticon stopping in front of his cell and spitting insults at him. For now, it was the worst thing that they had done to him, but Ratchet wasn't looking forward to finding out what else they would do to him. At least the insults were easy to ignore.
His thoughts were adequately distracted when a loud, frightened yelp drew his attention to the entrance of his cell again. His optics narrowing in confusion, he watched as the Decepticon insulting him was stared at by the shadow of a mech usually not found close to the direct front lines. Deadlocks' grip seemed to be tight, if the way that the Decepticon was squirming was an indicator, or maybe the intensity of his stare was responsible. Either way, the Decepticon squirmed in Deadlocks' grip as the mech seemed to quietly tell him something in an urgent tone. There were a few kliks of silence before the Decepticon nodded quickly and hurried off, throwing a short look over his shoulder before presumably leaving the hallway.
Deadlock turned towards him and, despite his previous thoughts, threw him a challenging look. Whatever the assassin was playing at, Ratchet wouldn't play along. They held optic contact for several kliks, before Deadlock simply turned around and left.
Ratchet continued to look for a couple of moments before turning away. That had been strange, and he didn't need anything strange on top of everything else.
It was quite satisfying to see the cause you have fought for millions of years finally defeat the enemy and be crowned the winner. In Lord Megatron's place, quite literally. Deadlock, even as one of the higher Decepticons, wasn't overly interested in theatrics like that.
As an assassin, he was always more comfortable keeping to the side, with a clear way to look around and plan. With Prime and the rest of the Autobots captured and secured, the next step in the plan was, surprisingly enough, a celebration. With no further fights to worry about, most Decepticons were in a good mood, even if some already missed the fighting.
Deadlock himself was looking forward to a break, but he knew that as long as all the Autobot prisoners were in the same place, he couldn't leave. The risk of a poorly thought-out plan backfiring on the Autobots was too high, and in the privacy of his processor, he could admit that the famed Autobot medic fascinated him.
The bot had graduated from Medical University with the best notes back on Cybertron, had been one of the few good medics that helped the poor, and, as far as Deadlock knew, had managed to survive the war without breaking his medic vow. To do so, one needed talent, dedication, and a strong belief, all of which the Decepticon could admire.
What made him the most curious, however, was the question of why he always seemed to gravitate towards the medic. And considering he had all the time in the world now, he intended to find out.
So, with one last look at the celebrating mechs, he slipped into the shadows and left the room, making his way towards the cells. As he stepped into the hallway housing Ratchet's cell, he noted the eery silence.
Almost every other Autobot seemed to always talk, complain, or just make noise, but not Ratchet. The medic was always quiet, never saying a word. Instead, he seemed to be waiting for something. As he came to a stop in front of the cell, Ratchet was already looking towards him, by now probably able to distinguish his steps from passing Decepticons.
Once in front of the cell, he turned to face the medic, crossing his arms in front of his chassis, Ratchet mirroring him inside the cell. They had met like this a couple of times before, both just standing and staring at each other, neither willing to speak first.
Deadlock was back, again. Ratchet started to get more annoyed than concerned each time the assassin came to his cell simply to stare at him like he was some kind of mechanimal. Thus far, he had calmed himself inwardly while just staring back at the Decepticon, but with each visit, his annoyance grew stronger.
Considering Deadlock was one of the more important Decepticons, one would assume he wouldn't have time to stand around in a hallway all the time. On the other hand, with the war being over, maybe there was just nothing else to do. What a depressing thought—a four-million year war and the winning side, Ratchet grumbled at the admission, having nothing else to do but stare at prisoners.
A chuckle informed him that the mech in question had arrived already and was laughing at him. With his nerves on end, his annoyance rising, and his mood more than ruined, Ratchet couldn't help himself and snapped at the assassin: "Frag off, Deadlock." The assassin opened his mouth and froze, before slowly tilting his head to the side. With the war over, Deadlock had been thinking about looking for his soulmate, but with an angry medic sitting in front of him and the words etched into his wrist burning, it seemed like he wouldn't need to do that anymore. That explains his fascination, at least, he assumed. A smirk grew on his faceplate as he focused back on Ratchet. "Oh, now this is interesting." The rapid change of emotions on his soulmate's face was hilarious to watch. Years of trained self-control and shock were the only things keeping Ratchet from blue-screening completely as he stared at his apparent soulmate. The burning of the etched words makes it impossible to fake and Primus. What did he do to deserve this?
