Books should never have deckled edges, but they should all have those little chapter divots that encyclopedias and dictionaries had for easy flipping
Wedding Calligraphy
I recently had to pleasure of doing some custom lettering for a destination wedding in Italy. The bride wanted a classic look with a slight artistic vibe which lead to us selecting a deckled edge watercolour stock in a slight cream shade, paired with black brush lettering in a modern calligraphy style.
Each menu card was lettered individually, as were the name tags. The rough deckled edge on the paper was also achieved by hand, giving it all a lovely handmade feel.

Deckled edge place cards
I'm so happy and excited to share with you these works in progress: Place cards for a destination wedding in Italy!
The @hahnemuehle_global paper is deckled by hand to give it that gorgeous rough edge, paired with simple brush lettering with a @tombowusa Fudenosuke soft tip pen in black just makes it oh so chic 🙌🏽
I'm so excited to see how @chechic_weddings will be styling these on the day

In my limited experience it seems to me that anyone who hates deckled edged books just want something to whine about.
I'd wager they prefer sprayed edges. There's nothing wrong with that but I hate sprayed edges that only boast a single color.
Personally I'd love to see an attempt of combining both, especially if done well.
