Topi’s Daily Card #928: Declaration in Stone
In most cases, Instant speed point removal will be better in EDH. Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile are both fine removal spells, so Declaration in Stone is an odd card to include. The fact is though, is that this card can ruin homogeneous token decks. If your opponent’s got a bunch of plant tokens from their Avenger of Zendikar or they specialize in Thallids or Goblins, Declaration in Stone can get rid of all the same named tokens, and on top of that, they don’t get to investigate for any of them. Granted, Sorcery speed can be too slow if they’re attacking fast with their army, but it’s at least an interesting angle to try if your playgroup is just stuffed to the gills with token decks. And of course in a pinch, this can serve a fine point removal, just slower than most people would like.
I target Reckless Fireweaver with Declaration in Stone. My opponent claims he gets the Fireweaver trigger. I believe Declaration's wording means that he gets the clues after Fireweaver is gone. Would he get the burn trigger?
Fireweaver doesn’t trigger here because it’s no longer on the battlefield when its controller investigates.
When a spell or ability resolves, you follow its instructions in the order they’re written. Declaration in Stone exiles before anyone investigates. It also determines the number of times the player investigates based on the number of creatures that are exiled, so the exile has to happen first here.
I love exiling spiders. It's quite the hobby of mine.

just pointing out to all the people who want to use Spy Kit in commander, Deceleration in Stone targeting a creature with Spy Kit almost becomes a interesting board wipe that gives everyone clues.
Actually, it will only wipe creatures controlled by one player. But yes, it will exile the target and any other nonlegendary creature that player controls (with the exception of most tokens since their names aren’t card names).
While i guess most of them are dead, i love to immagine that most of the vampires stuck in “Declaration in Stone” are still alive. And complaining to Sorin. A lot. And that he will have to slowly chisel them out one by one. while they moan and nagg and complain.
