Reasons to Declutter - the Stats
As Americans, we own way too much stuff! We spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning, organizing and then buying even more stuff....only to clean, organize and buy again. Then we turn around and buy storage accessories (shelves, tubs, organizers, etc.) to store and harness all of the new purchases which creates even more clutter!
For many of us, our clutter is evident everywhere. With our garage, cars, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, office in the form of draws and closets that are filled to the brim and messy draws that won’t close.
Public storage facilities reap the benefits of our clutter problem. Their business is booming plus they gain even more revenue from frustrated and penny strapped customers that walk away from their facilities - leaving them up for auction.
How can our lives be enriched by removing all of this clutter?
Take a look at a few stats on the clutter problem in America:
1. One in four Americans have a clutter problem. The average home contains 300,000 items. (NBC News)
2. There are 93 items in the typical closet with a total cost of $8,500. However 70% of the items are never worn. (ThredUp)
3. The average American throws away 65 pounds of clothing per year. (Huffington Post)
Reasons to declutter include: Save money, reduce stress, increase self esteem, save time, easier to clean, you can find things easier and therefore live happier.
