In 1982 Royal Orleans, a ceramics company that got the Pink Panther license in 1981 or so, started making annual Christmas decorative collector's plates. Sobre lo masculino es una instalación artística sencilla y directa, que trata el tema de la masculinidad como si este fuese una mera decoración que uno se pone al salir de casa y que se quita al llegar a la misma.
Todo en esta pieza está realmente calculado, desde la elección de las fotografías impresas en los platos, los platos en sí mismos o el uso de la cianotipia como método de reproducción de las imágenes.
Para ello, se ha escogido dos fotografías tomadas en el año 1928 y provenientes del álbum privado de un hombre francés en las que se puede ver a tres hombres en posturas muy afectivas. Desde el punto de vista actual casi se podría decir que se nota un aire un tanto homoafectivo (a pesar de que desconocemos en su totalidad si es que estos hombres compartían algún tipo de relación entre ellos) a través de sus poses, casi como si estas imágenes se hubiesen tomado en la mayor privacidad posible, a espaldas de un mundo que no soportaba este tipo de comportamientos. Por otra parte, el uso del plato nos habla de la temática del objeto decorativo, la idea que yo quiero transmitir con esto es de alguna forma hacer conectar al espectador con un recuerdo en su mente de los antiguos platos decorativos que existían décadas atrás y al mismo tiempo jugar con la idea de la masculinidad. La masculinidad como algo totalmente impuesto, decorativo, social.

About Masculinity it’s a very simple artistic installation which reflects about masculinity as if it was just a simple decorative stuff that a person choose (or has to) to wear outside of their own privacity.
Everything at this artwork is extremely calculated, from the choosing of the pictures that are portrayed in the plates or even the use of the cianotype as a the way of reproduction of the very same images.
To create this piece, I selected two pictures taken in the year of 1928 by a french man who had them in his “private album” in which we can see three different man in very homoaffective poses. From nowadays point of view, we can even say that we can feel kind of an homoerotic (despiting the fact that we don’t really know what was going between them) atmosphere by looking at them. We can even think about how they would feel in a world that turn the back to all of this behaviours. On the other hand, the using of the plates reflects about the thematic of the decorative object, the idea I’m trying to transmit with this is to be able of connecting in some way with the visitor and make him think about those old-fashioned decorative plates that used to be in many of our homes in the past (at least, it was very common here in Spain) and also to play with the idea of masculinity. Masculinity as something you are not able to choose, decorative, social.
