Jeyne was sore in places she didn’t know could get sore. The sheets of Ramsay’s bed stuck to her, clinging to the thin film of sweat and gods know what else that covered her body. She felt frozen in place as her husband lay next to her, seemly unfettered- even relaxed- after the events of the marital bed.
It had only been a few days since her wedding, but she had gotten used to quietly slipping out of the bed to sleep on the floor. She didn’t have to be told to, she wanted to be away from him, as much as she could be, being his wife, and she didn’t want her quiet sobbing to shake the bed and wake him.
Today she was emboldened, and instead she rolled over to look at him. He wasn’t looking at her, but his cold, ice blue eyes still frightened her. She scooted closer to him on the bed, and, shaking in fear, but still wanting to try, she slid one arm over his chest and rested her head on his shoulder. She couldn’t help but tremble, fearing what he would do or say.
