Headcanon: Giving Dedue Flowers Would Be Like...

Dedue really enjoys gardening and taking care of the flowers in the greenhouse. He loves learning about different types of plants. He often finds himself in the library, looking into plants he had never heard of.

Being from Duscur and spending almost all of his time in Faerghus, Dedue was unfamiliar with all the different plants that could be found in other parts of Fodlan.

Dedue would never expect anyone to give him a gift, and he would never expect anyone to give him flowers.

If you ever decided to gift Dedue with flowers or a plant, he would be surprised and slightly embarrassed. He would love the gesture, but he is not used to receiving gifts, especially not something related to one of his hobbies.

Dedue would graciously accept your gift. He would thank you multiple times. He would promise to take good care of the plant and keep you updated on how the plant is doing.

If you gave Dedue flowers, he would cherish them even after they wither and dry up. He would hesitate to throw them out even when all the petals had fallen off and made a mess in his room.

Dedue would also ask if you have any interest in plants. If you do, he would want to talk to you about different plants. He would want to exchange information on different types of plants and expand his knowledge. If you aren't interested in plants, Dedue would understand. It would make him feel even more special because you went out of your way to get him something he is interested in even though it isn't interesting to you.

The next time Dedue had to go to the market, he would try to find you a gift that you would enjoy. He would want to make sure that his gift for you is as thoughtful as your gift to him.

Overall, Dedue would absolutely love it if you gave him flowers or plants. It would make him feel special and happy that you took the time to find out what he likes. Dedue would want you to feel as special as you made him feel, whether it be through gifts or just spending time together.

At first Dedue would ask you to keep your distance and not defend him. He is worried for your own reputation if you associate with him.

You show him time after time that you are not going to stop. He is impressed to see some people who used to give him hell have actually started to back off.

See, Dedue doesn't think anything can change in Fodlan until Dimitri is king. But you would prove to him that some things can be better right now.

He would become a little more open to changing his approach in life, even if just a little, specially if you can inspire other students to support him more vocally too.

He would start to catch feelings for you but, again, would only consider confessing after Dimitri is king, when his duty has been fulfilled and justice for Duscur has been made. He is too afraid to stray from his goal and fail.

Actually, he's too afraid to have loved ones again before he feels safe that he will not lose them, but shh.

You would try to knock some sense into him, but he is too set in his ways. That is... until he almost loses you. When you are hurt in battle or fall gravely ill, he realises he could have been making you happy right here and right now, all this time.

He is ashamed that he had to learn this the hard way, but does not dwell in the mistake and changes his ways quickly, not just towards you but towards Dimitri and the rest of his friends too.

He will always struggle with the issues he does but he would be so, so much happier since he made this decision. You joke that you're "gonna have to nearly die more often if the reward is like this" and he gets legit concerned-mad for several days.

It's fine, tho. You guys have the rest of your lives to figure this one out.

Dedue would be able to hide his interest in you fairly well. Dedue is pretty stoic so hiding his emotions is easy for him.

What initially drew Dedue to you was how strong-willed you were. He liked that you would stand your ground for things you believe in.

When he found out that you used to be a mercenary, Dedue was very surprised. It wasn't that you lacked skill but because you were so cheerful.

After getting to know you better, Dedue was pulled to you by your cheerfulness. It is one of the things he likes most about you.

Dedue likes spending time with you. Sometimes he will seek you out in the morning. Seeing you and spending time together brightens his day and makes him feel ready to take on any task.

Dedue likes to spar with you. He thinks you are very skilled and feels that he could learn a lot from you, and it could help him protect Dimitri in the future.

Dedue would look out for you. If he ever saw you looking upset, he would do whatever it takes to get you back to your usual cheerful self.

During battle, Dedue's number one priority is to protest Dimitri. Once the battle is over, his first instinct is to see if you are alright.

Ashe would probably be the first one to notice Dedue's interest in you. He would promise to keep Dedue's feelings a secret.

Dedue would keep his feelings a secret for as long as possible. His first duty would always be to serve Dimitri. He wouldn't want anything to interfere with that duty, but he wouldn't be able to help how he feels, and you would become a soft spot for him.
