I have this head cannon where years after the events of Transistor, the power cell in the transistor begins to die. As the power fails, red and boxer fade. The transistor sits there for eons, replaying Boxers last words to red over and over again. "Red, not much time is left. I can feel myself fading bit by bit… Before I go… I wanted to let you know that I love you and I will always find you… find you… find you… find you… "
Someone’s been watching Artificial Intelligence??Honestly, I bet they’d live on in some form of energy or matter. However, I have learned, in a chemistry course (yes, chem) that unsustained power aside, storage data has a limited lifespan, anywhere from one to several decades. The question is, how resilient is the Transistor as a storage device and how enduring is the trace data of Red, Boxer, and all the other people of Cloudbank. For example, if a floppy disc from the 80’s were kept in good physical condition, its data would not become corrupted or unusable until about 15 years from manufacturing. On the other hand, photos stored on a memory drive would not decay for about 115 years. According to some quick research, data fades either because of use or just because of time, like a body dying from overexertion and wear versus natural decay.Buuuuuut, trace data of the characters is more akin to the concept of a human soul, it seems. Red’s and Boxer’s consciousnesses and memories may not remain the same forever, but they could be transferred elsewhere and meet again new.
