Seven Samurai Swept Away in a River by Jung Young Moon . A beautifully bizarre piece of writing loosely based around the authors experiences in Texas where ideas flow lazily from one to the next, and little oxbow lakes of tangential thoughts form from the meandering writing style whose sentences stretch across pages letting you get lost in the language and swept up by the steady momentum. Seriously, several pages for a single sentence. Not a book for everyone, no overarching arc or tangent, just a series of connected observations and written experiments, but if you like something different and love long, lingering sentences where ideas marinate with a wry written wit, then maybe it’s for you. Carmen Boullosa novel Texas (Alfaguara Mexico) to be published in translation by Deep Vellum

 Translation rights and distribution deal for Carmen Boullosa's novel Texas (Alfaguara, 2013) has been announced by DeepVellum (rhymes with Deep Ellum), a new Dallas-based publisher of works in translation.

No word on who the translator might be on their post from late July 2013. 

                           World Literature Today reviewed the Spanish version of Boullosa's novel in May 2013:

"Carmen Boullosa’s novel Texas seems to score a direct hit. The subtitle, La Gran Ladronería en el Lejano Norte(The greatest theft in the far north), speaks to the deep-seated feelings of frustration, anger, and indignation Mexicans held and still hold regarding the heavy-handed treatment meted out to them during the United States’ territorial expansion west and south during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. These emotional feelings rising from injustices suffered at the time, and since, give substance to the totality of this novel."
