New Procreate Update 5.4

Well, there it is, the update we’ve been waiting ages for. I thought I read it was coming next week, not sure if I got lucky or Instagram just showed me the posts out of order and next week is now. Anyway, checked my iPad and there it was.

Did a very quick 10 minute doddle of a flower with the new gouache brushes. There’s new inks, painting, watercolours, charcoals etc. it should keep me busy for a while. I suppose I’m going to actually have to RTFM. Will probably spend the next few days reorganizing all the purchased brushes. Maybe by brush artist? Or type? Not sure yet 😊

Down by the River

This should be my first full landscape “on my own” so to speak, no tutorials just a reference picture. Trying to remember and incorporate the various tips and techniques from the various tutorials and see if I’ve managed to absorb them or not 😊

Overall, not too bad. Used the default brushes.

Embrace

A little more “people practice”, this time a couple embracing.

A bit of mixed media, I used the default pencil brush, but also a bit of the Bardot pastels.

Landscape, Unfinished

A lesson learned. It’s okay to split a tutorial into a couple or more sessions, but don’t leave too many days in between sessions!

I was following this James Julier waterfall tutorial, but maybe because it was summer, I got distracted. I left too many days in between sessions and even with a bit of rewinding I found it hard to keep track of the layers and everything. In the end, I left it unfinished.

If I try again, I’ll just start it from scratch. Used the default brushes.

Inktober 2024 Day 5 - Binoculars

Had a few spare minutes after lunch so tried for the fifth prompt of binoculars.

Decided to be a bit more ambitious this time, a person using binoculars and in colour! Found an image on Google as a quick reference and used the default ink brushes. Not super happy with the face and shadows, but that’s as far as I’m feeling it for now, it’ll do 😊.

A Fantasy Landscape

Tried the ‘snow tree and stars’ tutorial from James Julier. It gives off a bit of a fantasy vibe 😊

Have to admit, I got slightly distracted towards the end and the snow dunes aren’t exactly perfect, but that’s okay, it’s the journey not the destination 😊
