So I know you do the breed evaluations, but are you any good at determining what breed a dog might be? I have an adorable mystery mix I got from the local Humane Society. I am working on saving up for an official DNA test from Embark (side note, what are your opinions on those services?), but I enjoy getting people's impressions. She's a gorgeous dog, but a real head scratcher! (Tax: Came for the vet stories, stayed because everything else was awesome)

At a conference with hundreds of vets, four mixed breed dogs were presented to guess their breed. They already had their results from the Advance DNA kit.

There was one correct guess for three of the dogs out of all those vets. So I highly doubt I’m going to be accurate for more than one breed in a mix.

That’s also for real, in the flesh dogs. There’s more to guessing breeds than what a dog looks like, but their sounds and behavior help as well. It might be the very distinctive Staffordshire Bull Terrier noise, or the way greyhounds hold their ears for example.

Pictures on the internet are likely to be even more difficult, and I’m afraid that anybody else’s guess will be as good as mine .

Ok you are the first person I've known who likes their steak rare, so I just have to ask...why?

I actually like it blue, which is “seared on the outside and basically completely raw in the middle,” but for some reason many restaurants won’t serve that. I have no idea why I like it so raw, I just do! There’s something about the taste and the textural contrast- and the temperature contrast, too- that makes it just so dang tasty to me!

I caught Avarice shedding for the first time last night and it occurred to me: Since some geckos (all geckos?) eat their shed, will they be hungry the day after? It would normally be his feeding day, but since he just ate his shed, I am wondering if he will still eat Pangea today.

I would still offer, a lot of the time they still eat :)

So I work for a pest control company and we have an annual cookout next week. Thanks to the recent influx of stuff on your blog about it, I am SO TEMPTED to see if I can hunt down cricket flour and make some cricket cookies or something...I would keep it a secret, but given the possibility of someone being allergic, I couldn't morally do that.

DO IT. Or do toasted mealworms- you could like, do a salad and then provide a bowl of croutons and a bowl of mealies or roasted crickets or something.

So I am a baby DM for two D&D groups and one of my players was flipping through the Player's Handbook yesterday and I saw that they had an entry in the Monsters section or whatever it was for "Poisonous Snake." I died on the inside.

As the DM, you could make that happen, though. A snake that has a bite attack and a flail attack, the latter causing 1d4 poison damage (halved if they roll a reflex save), which you could bump up if you want a more challenging enemy!

Do male Kaiju (aka male b&w argentine tegu) also have jowls? May be a dumb question, but all the stuff about tegu health only ever shows the red ones (obvs because Mac is red). I am curious what the b&w males look like!

Yeah! Theirs aren’t as big as reds’ are, though. Here’s one of Ty Park’s breeder males.

I am so sorry about your dad. My dad just passed last year from a sudden, brief, and ugly battle with brain cancer. I have been a little quiet on Tumblr lately, but if you ever need someone to talk to, I am here.

That truly sucks. I’m also sorry for yours as well. Especially that it was in the brain. I hope you’re doing alright. I’d say to take all the time you need also tumblr is really not important. Just take care of yourself like i’m sure your dad would want. I may take you up on that offer. I just don’t like knowing what the future will hold with him and my family but i’m working on going w/ the flow with things
