What happens if you go over the 42 credit limit (for taking major courses) in the 90 degree program? I have 45 (I'm in psyc and started yorku 2014 onwards). Im planning to graduate with 90 credits and everything says satisfied (just double checking) ty

Hey! I was just wondering which courses qualify for "Language and Writing" to satisfy one of my 36 credits of English. Online it says "Categories of English courses that will meet requirements include: 1. Introductory English Literature 2. Shakespeare 3. Canadian Literature 4. Post-Colonial 5. Gender Studies 6. Language and Writing" but I am not sure which courses are for #6. language and writing.

I see something that says at least 9 3000-level credits but sample schedules show 18 credits at the 3000 level. What should I do, considering I already enrolled in 6 credits of 2000-level courses?

Hi, new POLS major here. I was looking at the academic calendar and I was wondering about required courses for my major..

It says POLS 3000-4000 level: I need 12 credits and another 18 at any level (is this the 3 required courses I need for the major – 1000/2900/2910),

ANY OTHER 3000-4000 level: I need 6 credits,

and ANY OTHER 1000-4000 level: I need at least 18 credits.

Plus the required general education. Is that all?

And everything else to add up to the 90 credits required to graduate can be any course at any level?

“Major credits: students must complete at least 30 credits in political science, including:

* AP/POLS 1000 6.00 (cross-listed to: AP/PPAS 1000 6.00);

* AP/POLS 2900 6.00 (cross-listed to: AP/PPAS 2900 6.00);

* six credits chosen from the following: AP/POLS 2910 6.00 (cross-listed to: AP/PPAS 2910 6.00), AP/POLS 2940 6.00 orAP/POLS 2950 6.00;

* 12 credits at the 3000 or 4000 level.”

Those courses will all be within your major; in other words, for your purposes, courses taken with the POLS course code.

Then, you also have “Upper-level credits: at least 18 credits at the 3000 or 4000 level.”

Your 3000-level and/or 4000-level POLS courses count towards this, so you will only need 6 more credits at the 3000 or 4000 level.

That gets you to 36 out of your 90 for the BA.

Then, you have your gen eds:

“General education: a minimum of 21 general education credits as follows:

* 6.00 credits in natural science (NATS)

* a 9.00 credit approved general education course in the social science or humanities categories

* a 6.00 credit approved general education course in the opposite category to the 9.00 credit course in social science or humanities already taken”

That gets you to 57 credits.

You also need at least 18 credits outside the major, so courses that aren’t POLS courses or your general education courses. That brings you to 75 credits.

You also have free choice (elective credits), which can be anything. You have 15 of those, for a total of 90 credits.

Making an academic advising appointment would be a good idea, especially if you’re not too sure what you need to take. Generally, taking your introductory course and then getting your general education requirements out of the way in your first year is the best thing to do.
