This nerd has to spend some time trying to get a job, paying off her student loans, adjusting to living away from familial support, catching up on medical appointments, making ttrpgs, and working further on being social.

One of the big problems I’m running into with advising right now is that my students are literally all over the map. I’m pretty sure I have a student in every time zone.
I just met with a student over Zoom, said “Good morning”, and asked her how her day is so far. She waffled a little before saying “Good, I think.”
Me: “Is it too early to tell?”
Her: “Oh, no, it’s after midnight in Japan.”
I had another meeting, a while back, with a student in China. It was the afternoon for me, but 4:00 AM for him. I said “You know, you can set these meetings later in the day!”
He said “That’s alright. I have a 3:00 AM class.”
Students right now are rocking it and they’re rocking it under conditions that we never could have imagined. I’m so proud of them. I hope I’m able to make things go a little more smoothly for them all.
