TEA TIME: My Favorite Electric Kettle and Insulated Teapot
When I can pull it off-- which sadly is only sometimes-- I like to stop what I'm doing at 4PM and have a cup of tea. The soothing, centuries-old English ritual of tea time tricks me into feeling civilized in the midst of my crazy New York workday, which in reality is anything but.
Electric tea kettles have been popular in Europe much longer than here in the US. I bought my first one years ago at the suggestion of an London-based friend and have owned several over the years. However, I particularly love my brand new one ($64 on Amazon) -- especially as it's the only one I've found where no carcinogenic plastic whatsoever touches the water I will be consuming. And it's very speedy, often heating the water even before I have time to get the tea leaves into the pot.
Speaking of the pot, I adore and recommend an insulated ceramic one I've had for several years now. It's made by Degrenne ($129 on Amazon; click here) and has a built in tea cozy which keeps the tea nice and hot for several hours.
