I’ve had to deal with this type of shit ten times over. Just wanting some support and having to get labeled to what they believe in. People are ridiculous and need to be educated.
It's only recently that I've had this kind of thing happen. It's also only recently that I've broken out of the "traditional" categories and realized that I might want something else. I say it all the time--falling in love is not about sexual attraction to a gender. I fall in love with a soul, a heart, a kindness, a genuine smile. Those are the things that attract me to someone, that make me want to be intimate with someone.

I love how ‘advocate’ and ‘ally’ are thrown around so easily now. Like, you’re an ally of something you don’t even understand. Congrats.
I generally say I am a "supporter" if people want to know, because "advocate" implies active outreach. I know the broad strokes of issues affecting the LGBTQ population, and haven't had the time to keep up with all the nuances and details. So, I don't speak up too much, because I know I don't have a firm grasp on the arguments. This, this lack of information, drives me crazy. I understand you're all for equality and fairness and rights, but you have to know your facts. The ideals aren't enough.
I remember back a decade and some, when I was in undergrad, there were a lot of protests to "Free Tibet." Now, I'm Asian, and I know a bit about Tibet because of that, but I still didn't know all the current political movements and implications. So, I asked a protester what he was protesting. He gave me the slogan. Then I asked what we were freeing Tibet from. He couldn't answer me. I asked what freedom would mean to the Tibetan people. He had no idea.
You're for human rights? Great. For equal rights? I'm all for that. But if you're going to do something active about your beliefs, please know what you're talking about so you don't sound like an idiot when people ask you. The purpose of protests and advocacy is to sway people to your cause, and ill-informed answers to inquiries will most definitely not do that.
