you and dehya have been dating for several years now- crawling up on your third next month. though you weren’t a vision wielder, you were invited to a dinner party that all of the sumeru vision holders were hosting. they each made an agreement that everyone was able to bring along an additional person if they pleased, idea brought up by nilou. so obviously, dehya chose to bring you.
normally, due to your girlfriends line of work, she’d have no time for these events. you talked to her, and then giving her a moment to confirm with the others that this will be one she will be attending, and that, due to the traveler symbolizing the importance and your asking, she will be bringing you as her person.
a few days later, the morning of the dinner, you walked over to where nilou, traveler, and alhaitham were gathered, likely discussing the journey to fontaine. you walked up to them, nilou and traveler greeting you with a wave as alhaitham nodded his head at your presence.
“hello, y/n!” nilou brought you in for a hug. “how are things with you and dehya? i know i’m seeing you two tonight, but i just couldn’t help but ask.” she ended that sentence with a slight giggle, releasing the hug and allowing traveler and paimon to greet you properly, following up with alhaitham.
“well, that’s kind of why i came to find you.” you sighed, a slight smile on your face. you could see nilou go visibly pale, thinking she knows what she’s about to hear.
“i just… need help with how to propose to her.”
any lack of emotion immediately left nilous face, her putting her hands to her cheeks in glee and allowing paimon to talk this time.
“paimon knew this day would come!! the only thing dehya talks about when we get together is you, y/n!” she did a little backflip in the air. “when do you think you’re gonna do it? you have to fill paimon in!”
at this time, alhaitham had excused himself to work, and you were now starting to walk through sumeru city. you were keeping a sharp eye out for dehya, hinting to nilou and traveler to do the same, and for traveler to tell paimon to keep her voice down incase she or someone she knew was around to hear.
“well, how soon would you want to do it? and how big of a deal would you want to make it?” nilou wondered. “are you thinking about taking the zubayr theatre for a little bit for the proposal?”
you sighed, brushing a stray hair back behind your ear. “that’s what i need help on. i know i want it to be either tonight or tomorrow, but i don’t really know how to go about it. i know she probably wouldn’t want too big of a croud surrounding her, so maybe not the zubayr theatre. i was thinking somewhere… special. maybe where we first met, though that was just a little shack of a cafe in the middle of the caravan ribat. it’s certainly not a big place, but i kind of want to take her there. though, it depends on where we are dining tonight.”
nilou nodded, processing all that information, thinking as you walked the paths of the city.
“paimon thinks you should just propose where you first met! we’ve had to help out with proposals before, right, traveler?”
the traveler nodded.
“exactly! paimon has experience under her wing. did you buy the ring yet?”
you nodded, pulling a box out of your pocket that held a beautiful red topaz jewel in the center with a gold band glimmering in the sunlight.
“that’s a beautiful ring, i think she’ll love whatever you do, y/n!” nilou clapped her hands, giggling a little. “i’d just say, take her to your spot in the caravan ribat. explain the significance of the spot if she doesn’t exactly remember, and then propose! i don’t see her saying anything but yes!!”
you laughed, putting an arm around nilous shoulder and giving her a side hug.
“thanks, nilou. and thanks, paimon and traveler! i’ll see you guys later!!” you walked off, heading back to your shared apartment.
before you knew it, it was time to go to dinner. you zipped up the back of dehyas dress as she helped you straighten out any visible wrinkles in your dress/suit, and you two were off. where the dinner was is a very fancy and expensive restaurant in the middle of sumeru city, the night reserved to your party. as you two walked in, you were immediately greeted by a waitress, who walked the two of you to the table, where you saw cyno, nilou, the traveler and paimon, a few other guests everyone brought along, and nahida herself. you both waved and greeted everyone before taking your own seats.
the dinner went by in a blur. the bill was paid, and you all parted your own ways. though, instead of bringing dehya back to your apartment, you were walking in the direction of the desert, taking her hand in yours as soon as you knew that nobody would be around to see such displays of affection.
after a while of walking in silence, she looked at you.
“hey, where are we going? this is the direction of the desert, not our apartment, ya’know..”
“i’m aware. i just have somewhere to take you. then we’ll be on our way.” you gripped her hand a little harder, slightly cuddling into her shoulder as you guys walked. “the night is very beautiful, no?”
she nodded. “it’s very pleasant tonight. normally, nights around here get pretty bitter. is that why you wanted to take a walk?”
“yeah, for the most part. theres another reason, but you’ll figure that out once we reach our destination. we aren’t far!” you laughed slightly before picking up your pace, dragging her behind you. she laughed as well, making this into a race to see who could travel the farthest distance.
as soon as the two of you reached the caravan ribat, you took a deep breath, attracting dehyas attention as you stopped her in front of the cafe you two met at.
“do you remember what this place means to our relationship, dehya?” you said with a slightly shaky voice.
“of course i do. we met here, and this was where we had our first date. why would i forget something as important as that?” she ruffled your hair slightly as you got down on one knee, catching her off guard.
she looked around to see if anyone was watching before looking back down at you. you pulled a beautiful ring out of your pocket and held it up to her.
“dehya. when i first met you, it immediately felt to me as if i had found the one. that probably explains why we got so close so fast. i felt like the luckiest person alive when we went out for our first date, and felt even luckier when you moved in with me. you deserve nothing short of the best, someone who will love you and support you, and someone who will always be there for you. will you allow me to be that person for as long as you and i live, and marry me?”
you could swear this was the first time you saw her shocked. at this point, your heart was beating what felt like 50 times per second, and you were probably sweating a waterfall right now.
“yes, of course!” she laughed, letting you slip the ring on her finger before picking you up and spinning you around. she took a moment to gaze down at the ring that adorned her ring finger, smiling as she felt her chest warm up. she looked up at you before passionately kissing you, and ended the night having your first date at that same cafe, but now as your fiancee.
