So uh... I have some experience with channeling now. So that's new. I still have not entirely processed this. I'm just... yea.

Deity Channeling

My first experience with this occurred during a healing ritual that I was performing with a member of my coven, who happens to be a very close friend.

I felt the presence of my deity come through me, almost as if we were sharing a body and she was using me to direct the flow of the energy. My body felt calm, yet it was vibrating with energy. Even after grounding several times, I still felt this energy lingering for a few hours after. I have had several other experiences like this since then, and I absolutely love it. I feel it really brings me closer to my deity and it shows me that she cares about me as just as much as I care for her.

Now, when this first occurred I had no idea what was going on. I did some research and talked to a close friend of mine that practices Shamanism. She told me that what I experienced was a lesser from of channeling known as "shadowing." The deity guides you and feels almost like he or she is sitting on your shoulder, so to speak, during the ritual.

I wanted to share some of what I found in my research while looking for answers to what I was experiencing, thus, I've provided everyone with the information listed below.

What is Channeling: At certain rituals the Priest and Priestess can channel the God and Goddess, essentially becoming conduits for the gods to speak to the rest of the coven. The deities are invoked and asked to enter the bodies of the coven leaders. The deities can then use the Priest and Priestess to speak to the rest of the coven. Often, the leaders do not even realize that this is happening. However, the deities can also choose to speak through the coven leaders at times other than when asked to do so. Thus, the channeling of a deity can occur at any time, though usually it occurs within a ritual circle. Drawing Down the Moon/Sun: The ritual of drawing down the moon/sun is a very common form of deity channeling. During a full moon, the Priest will ask the Goddess to descend into the body of the Priestess. He will then take the tip of the wand and touch it to the Priestess body at certain points during the invocation. "I invoke and call upon thee, O Mighty Mother of us all, Bringer of all fruitfulness. By seed and by root I invoke thee; by stem and by bud I invoke thee; by leaf, flower, and fruit I invoke thee; by love and life I invoke thee and call upon thee to descend into the body of this thy High Priestess and Servant (High Priestess Name) here. Speak with her tongue, touch with her hands, kiss with her lips, that thy servant may be fulfilled." The goddess is asked to enter the body of the High Priestess and speak through her. When this occurs, it is not uncommon for physical changes in the appearance of the Priestess to take place. If the Goddess doesn't appear the Priestess will recite the Charge of the Goddess, acting on the Goddess behalf. Charge of the Goddess: Traditional by Doreen Valiente, as adapted by Starhawk: "Listen to the words of the Great Mother, Who of old was called Artemis, Astarte, Dione, Melusine, Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Diana, Arionrhod, Brigid, and by many other names: Whenever you have need of anything, once a month, and better it be when the moon is full, you shall assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of Me Who is Queen of all the Wise. You shall be free from slavery, and as a sign that you be free you shall be naked in your rites.
