Daily Prayer to Mars

Mighty and Swift Mars, who of thy strength 

I draw my fortitude from.

Give me strength this day.

Give me strength to endure my trials.

Give me strength to stand up again.

Give me strength to carry on. 

Oh Mars, fulfilling in strength

I come before you, seeking your aid.

Let not my prayer be in vain 

But bless me with your divine assistance.

decided to do a short prayer which could be used as a daily thing. I devote this prayer to Mars

Day 22 - A quote, a poem, or piece of writing that you think this deity resonates strongly with

I mean there is my entire blog of 15 or so hymns I have composed for Mars but for stuff that is not straight dedicated for Mars I would say I think In Flanders Field

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,  That mark our place; and in the sky  The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,  Loved and were loved, and now we lie      In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw  If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow      In Flanders fields.

Hymn to Mars 12

I sing of the stalwart God, mighty Mars.

Protector of Citizens, protector of men.

Strong-armed, ready in battle,

I sing of Mars, assembled in my defense. 

Hear me and come to my defense,

O Mars, Mars Pater.

Just as you come to the aid of those long ago,

So come to my aid now.

I may easily falter and fall,

But with your divine assistance

I may stand strong in my battles.

With this one I tried taking some inspiration from the Homeric Hymns so not sure how exactly it turned out

Day 30 - Any suggestions for others just starting to learn about this deity?

Woot! Finally done with this. More back to other stuff like research, hymns, etc. after this

I would say keep an open mind with what the popular understanding of Mars is and try to come to the information without your biases as much as you can. Realize that Mars is more multi-faceted than people give him credit for. Also of course use academic sources and such, not always blogs like mine and others. Others would prob know more

Day 29 - Any interesting or unusual UPG to share?

I would once again direct to my post on being headblind. I’m headblind so UPG is very rare. I think the one UPG I’ve ever gotten is I have felt like I’m being embraced by something when I veil sometimes. But beyond that no UPG and especially not about Mars.

30 Days of Deity Devotion- Mars Day 26

Day 26 - How has your relationship with this deity changed over time?

Mmmm, hard to say I think. In some ways it definitely changed. Like I’ve said before I was first really introduced to Mars with a divination that happened. And before that and even then my relationship with Mars was one of a distant God I didn’t really have much interest in engaging in cultus with. For me, Mars was just a non-issue.

And then as I started interacted with Mars and me finding more info about him, I started viewing him as a source of strength. And through this I really realized that his type of strength and his presence was and is the paternal strength I never received from my biological father.

I think my relationship has changed but only in that I’ve gotten to know Mars more both in cultus and in knowledge.

Welp, this is going to be a short one. I would say this one probably reminds me the most of Mars

It is mostly impacted by my personal view of Mars as especially one who protects and bolsters me in my fight with mental illness but yeah this reminds me of Mars, I would say.

30 Days of Deity Devotion- Mars Day 16

This really keeps slipping my mind. This is the second time I forgot to post daily

Day 16 - How do you think this deity represents the values of their pantheon and cultural origins?

I mean to me I guess in some ways Mars is Rome. Although people see Mars as this like bloodthirsty God n’at (which I’ve more than talked about through this 30 day challenge that is not quite the case), that he represents a belligerent aspect of Rome but not in the same way as “bloodthirsty”. 

For me, Mars is the defender at the Gate, not the bloodthirsty animal. He is the stark defender, prepared to defend and fight at any time. Rather than seeking violence for violence’s sake, he seeks for the protection of all those who he wishes to protect. Which in this way, is a very poignant that Mars reflects Rome. It is not a surprise that Rome was a nation often rife with war but it is also one that was trying to protect itself. In Rome religion reflected in every aspect of the daily life and this was no different in War.
