Book recommendations: week 11
Book 11
Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs
Like many people, I found these books through the show. Every week I’d sit down in front of the tv with my mom and best friend to see what Temperance and Seeley were up too. We knew it was based on books and eventually my mom bought me this book to take on holiday with me.
Now, I’ll be the first to say that the books are very different. The books are, on occasion, rather graphic and the characters don’t really resemble any of the show’s characters. The lead simply shares a name and a profession.
The book follows Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist in Quebec. She has a very strong sense of justice that has her diving head first into cases. Sometimes at the detriment of her personal life.
She’s called in on a case when recovered remains of a woman are too decomposed for a standard autopsy.
Temperance discovers an alarming pattern during her examination of the remains and tries to convince the detective in charge, Claudel, that a serial killer is at large. He, unfortunately, remains skeptical until the body count rises.
By then however, Temperance has already been probing on her own and attracted the attention of the wrong person, putting those she loves in danger.
Kathy Reichs writes well and her descriptions are clearly medically based—though not hard to follow. This book really keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Déjà Dead - Kathy Reichs

But her investigation is about to place those closest to her, her best friend and her own daughter, in mortal danger...

I like the book version of Temperance Brennan better than the TV version. 💖💖💖
Please don’t attack me.
I just got done reading Déja Dead and it was WILD. I’m still shook. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series.
So #ReadathonByZoe was the 03.03.18, but I don’t have my shit together, so I did it a day late! Skip to weeks later and here are my results haha ^^”
So, I’ve been in a youtube slump, but I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately, so I wanted to combine these and hopefully my anxiety let’s me double these up. Here are my results:
TBR
Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian
I’m starting out the readathon with 15% done.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
I’m listening to this one on audiobook, as I’m too anxious to read it aloud in my room hahaha ^^”
The Gathering
I’m starting the readathon 121/359.
VLOG
WRAP UP
So… the readathon didn’t go so well, but I read two books, so I’m not too upset.
Books Read:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Shakespeare
I love this play so much! The whimsical, yet mischievous nature to the plot makes for a bumpy, hilarious and overall incredibly enjoyable ride.
Deja Dead – Kathy Reichs
I went into this thinking it would be amazing, unfortunately I was very disappointed by the end. Even without considering the tv series ‘Bones’ (which is based on these books), I felt that the characters were interchangeable and the plot was interesting, but lacked humanity. I understand that Reichs is an anthropologist, but the clinical nature of the book didn’t fully allow me to throw myself into the plot.
I would also like to point out that I have finally finished Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian, I loved it. The battle scenes were incredible and the plot twist was something I didn’t see coming, which I always love! I didn’t finish it until a couple of days ago, but I thought I’d mention it here. I mean, I’m a shambles of a person, so it stands to reason my endeavours would be as well haha 🙂
I’m still in the same place with The Gathering… *shhh*
Thanks for reading! I hope you are having a lovely day~

BOOK CLUB: November Reveal
Smart chick with a cool name? Check. Murder mystery? Check. Foundation of one of your favorite TV shows? Double check.
I am so excited to read Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs with you guys because when I first started this series, there wasn't this awesome community of Booklrs, Bibliophiles, Bookstagram's, or just blogging about books. Honestly, my jaw dropped numerous times and I had no one to gush to! So get ready to gab because although there are similar characters as the tv show Bones, so much happens that is different, more dramatic, and you're on the edge of your seat wanting Temperance Brennen and Seely Booth Andrew Ryan to fall in love all over again.
So let's get to reading! I'll see you back here in a few days (hopefully sooner!) for the discussion of The Cell by Stephen King.
