sorry you apparently weren’t around for this but theyfab came from transmeds attacking primarily young transmasculine nonbinary people for being transtrenders or whatever. it was not “this nonbinary person is transmisogynistic and keeps bringing up their agab” it was “nonbinary people are stupid and not real, look at all these annoying girls being desperate for attention and pretending to be trans because it’s trendy and they’re teenage girls” so yes it is transphobic and misogynistic shut up shut up shut upppppp i can’t take it anymoreeee

To be honest, I'm starting to get a little annoyed by how everyone misses the essence of Styx's character for stupid, sex-related jokes.

As if the word "slave" originally meant nothing of the sort, just someone who serves/belongs to someone? I swear, if Styx weren't a male character (though he's referred to as both "he" and "they" in the game), there would be far fewer comments about how much of a freak he is.

Is Styx a liar? Definitely, but his lies aren't malicious. He pretends to be much more submissive to Hornet, self-deprecating, only because he thinks it will get him what he wants.‎‎ Sure, there are darker/hidden parts to Styx (like how he hired the couriers in the first place, or his room, or his resemblance to Huntress and her children), but it's unlikely there's anything dangerous to Hornet behind it.

Not to mention that most ignore his dialogue with Needolin, that literally can't lie (even the snail shamans hint at their origins, though in the first game they could resist the Dream Nail). "Old laws, fresh wounds"; "Seek and hide"—these aren't the words of someone who would stab you in the back, even if they had the chance. And the dialogue in his room? There's not a word about anything violent or weird, or anything, just Styx's struggle with who he needs to be.

‎‎Add to this the fact that Styx is bigger than most bugs in the game and yet can't defend himself, not because he truly can't, but because he thinks he can't. This becomes apparent when Hornet tells him he can learn to make music too, but Styx immediately dismisses it, believing he's "not supposed" to know how to do such things.

Styx is definitely weird and genuinely obsessive to the point of being unpleasant, but there's also a certain "learned helplessness" about him that prevents him from being himself, making him even more unlikable to those around him, and to me, that's a much more interesting character concept than just "creepy male character haha."
