Deliso Pizza - Biglerville Road in Gettysburg, PA
After our terrible experience at 2 Brothers, Chelsea and I were both extremely wary of trying any more Pennsylvania pizza. However, I figured it was my duty to bring you another review, this time from Gettysburg's own Deliso Pizza. We were a little sketched out walking in because Deliso didn't really look like a pizzeria from the outside. There was a sink chillin' out front not connected to anything and loads of advertisements for beer and cigarettes everywhere. None of this was too surprising considering Gettysburg College was right down the road, but still. It made us even more hesitant to check it out. The inner layout wasn’t much different. Chelsea felt like it was somewhere the kids from Saved By The Bell would go to hang out, and she definitely had a point. Another reason I was pretty worried is because I would be going in blind on this slice, seeing as they had none out. I figured a pepperoni was my safest bet, so I ordered one as well as a "regular" stromboli for Chelsea, which meant ham, pepperoni and mozzarella. We picked out a booth and waited....
...And waited. It took what felt like forever for our food to come out. Chelsea made a good point that it was most likely because they were making her stromboli fresh, which you honestly can't complain about. When it finally did come out, we were both pleasantly surprised by the quality of our food. The pepperoni slice had nice crust (good dough and not too fluffy or dry), sauce that was a little sweet but not overpowering, cheese that was a good consistency, and helpings of pepperoni that were plentiful and not too greasy. Maybe not the best slice I've ever eaten in my life, but in all honesty, it was quite possibly the best slice I've had in Pennsylvania to date. Now that's saying something!
Chelsea and I also thoroughly enjoyed her stromboli. The ham, pepperoni, and cheese were all layered and blended nicely together, giving a little bit of each in every bite. So many places mess this up with half of a stromboli being all cheese and the other half all meat, so Deliso gets some serious props for this. The ham had a good salty taste, but still overpowered the pepperoni. Not necessarily a bad thing, but still worth noting! I personally think the stromboli was a little pricey (just under $8), but Chelsea didn't mind. Especially considering the cheapness of the pizza ($2.20), it just seemed a little high of a price, but I’m probably just nitpicking. If you're ever heading out to PA to check out the sites in Gettysburg, this is the place to eat. Being from NJ, we were overall unimpressed by the quality of the food in the area (even for the dirt cheap prices), but Deliso Pizza stood out as probably the only place I would eat at again if I ever went back to Gettysburg. Check it out!
