tfw you finish a normal easily soloable event chain in echovald wilds and suddenly you have ten minutes to kill a champion monster and nobody else is there
The hero sought to save the world. "If I keep trying, I'll be able to win," the hero thought. But the harder the hero fought, the further the world seemed to tumble away. Drowning in doubt, the hero could not even save themselves.
Hero, if you still believe in a brighter future, hold in your heart a thorn that can pierce all doubt.

7: What’s the most unethical spell they’ve ever cast, and what prompted them to use it?
8: How do they feel about the unsavory reputation attached to many necromancers? For della :3
7. In retrospect, Della thinks Scarlet Briar deserved a kinder death. That girl was just as much a victim as Aerin. But at the time -- there was no time. Lion's Arch had taken countless victims in its destruction. The Breachmaker was maybe minutes away from achieving whatever Scarlet had done. There were so, so many dead. So many refugees.
Della saw Scarlet pulling that shield up and she -- panicked. She reached into herself and cast the most devastating thing she could think of; Sylvari aren't flesh and blood and bone the way humans are, they take a different approach to cast on, if you're using necromantic theorems --
(Palawa Joko was the first Scourge, but maybe any Necromancer could've come to their own conclusions. Not all of a Scourge's skills require sand. Some of their Punishments are just... a different manipulation of energy. Della was a minionmancer for a very long time -- she was intricately familiar with the tricks and patterns of flesh. Of bodies. Of how they can be reshaped with a cast, and torn apart, and remade.)
She cast Desiccate on that woman to kill her. It was not a quick or painless death, but Della was in the throes of panic, and the only thing on her mind was We have to stop this woman. We have to stop her. And Della was angry, too -- so many dead -- she wanted it to hurt. She wanted vengeance for all those unquiet dead, gone before their time.
It didn't even matter in the end, did it? Scarlet still got what she'd wanted. It could've been kinder. She could've broken Scarlet's neck. She could've taken off Scarlet's arm but left her alive. Maybe she could've helped her. Maybe, maybe, maybe.
When the Commander got to Trahearne, later, she didn't use a hint of necromantic magic to kill him, not exactly. She took his own sword and plunged it through his heart.
8. She's gotten pretty used to it over the years! Most of the time it helps, it adds a veneer of intimidation and respectability -- and as someone who was Ash Legion she made use of that, back in the day. But when she was making her way through the Priory ranks, a lot of people weren't entirely sure how to approach her, which was... it was entertaining at first. It got old.
She works hard to try and maintain the idea, the image, of being -- somewhat approachable, you know? She bakes. She sews. She offers thesis critiques. It'd be a lie to say it's not at least somewhat calculated. If people she's working with outside a battlefield don't think of her as a necromancer first and foremost, she tends to get a lot more done.
R4, R13, R14
no toon given, so i'm gonna default to commander della fearflight!
R4: What does your character’s friends like about them?
Della is good at keeping her calm under pressure (usually), and can typically be relied on to act as the voice of reason. She's also fiercely protective, a little morbidly funny, fairly reliable, and tries her hardest to be kind; it doesn't come naturally, but that's fine.
R13: Does your character give good gifts?
She certainly tries! Generally she tries to give gifts that are handmade or artisan-made: something with unique value even outside of its purpose. However, she tends to focus on what she thinks people need and not what they want, so a lot of the time it ends up awkward.
R14: Would you character borrow money from others? Would they pay it back?
At this point she doesn't borrow money from others -- usually, anyway, she gets a pretty chunky stipend from Crecia for 'thanks for saving the charr and also saving the world. sorry bangar called you a race traitor' + she worked for the Priory for something like twenty years, she had some savings -- and even aside from that, she spends a lot of her downtime tailoring and selling what she makes.
But aside from that, she hates borrowing anything she doesn't know she can pay back. She'll set rigorous schedules for herself just so she can make sure she doesn't cheap out, somehow.
decided i wanted to give della a support kit so she now has a gun. and a snazzy new outfit for when Oh Fuck The Commander Has A Gun
✨️✨️✨️
✨️ svess: it's hard of hearing & uses hearing aids most of the time! the hearing loss is partially congenital, partially 'spent too much time hanging out near explosions', but it's working with it pretty well.
✨️ meditrix trilli: he's allergic to avocados :( not deadly-allergic but 'if i eat anything with this involved, i will need fairly quick medical aid' allergic. given that the inquest is... how it is... he just carries an epipen and reminds everyone very clearly He Is Your Medic :) Do You Want Him To Do A Bad Job :) You Don't Like Him Already? Well Guess What,
✨️ della fearflight: she doesn't actually have, like, blood anymore? she does get infusions of it sometimes because some necro magic works best when you can use your own blood as a focus, but she is a lich being preserved through both her necromantic magic & aurene's magic. this is frequently very surprising to anyone who tries to kill her, mostly because her body doesn't actually work anymore, not like that.
✨️ ✨️ ✨️ (-dragonsmooch)
✨️ lante dawnsong: astoundingly good sprinter. girl is fast, even on two legs, and if she does the all-four charrs run she's goin'.
✨️ della fearflight: bakes and/or cooks to relieve stress. this does mean that sometimes, when there's a big scary godfight / dragonfight coming up but the pieces aren't in play, dragon's watch walks up to a meeting and she's got plates of peppered clear truffle ravioli ready. or peppercorn-crusted sous-vide steak, if you're carnivorous! stop giving her that look, rytlock, she knows charr dietary constraints just as well as you do, eat the damn steak
✨️ project nickel: just absolutely godawful eyesight. the inquest might have improved some things about their body during that period of being a test subject, but, hey, they didn't improve nickel's eyes! if you knock their glasses off they're pretty much useless until they get those lenses back on their face again.
della is like a year or so younger than rytlock? so she’s entirely in his age range. but given they’re different legions i don’t think they ever actually met each other until she was in the priory and he was part of destiny’s edge and they kept bitching at each other Every Time destiny’s edge needed something from the priory
this does also mean that when you hit icebrood saga, with lante dawnsong actively working as a pact sniper (order of whispers), rytlock probably sideeyes her a lot. why’s HIS kid the one that’s a spoiled fucking brat that became a dragon champion!! lante’s ryland’s age!! she’s della’s kid!! and she’s normal!! (okay is one of her arms branded from the elbow down and missing a finger? ...yes, but also aurene branded over the purple brand, so, like. it’s fine. and it’s been chronomancer-locked into not progressing for years now.)
[della voice] Rytlock I think the problem here may be, please bear with me, “Blood” “Legion”, and perhaps not the entirety of charr society as stands. Although that is a problem. Don’t get me wrong that’s a big problem.
(given she’s in rytlock’s age range... she’s also in crecia’s age range. which is why when she ends up in a queerplatonic something with crecia rytlock just shakes his head at it. women, is he right)
