Is this what i think it is? It better be. But i can’t tell apart who is who owO?!!
This really was just a self-indulgent excuse to try writing baby!master!Kuroro and Kurapika being the most reluctant servant ever. Key word being try because I may have ideas about their interaction but the execution feels impossible to pull off. Plus I don't have a very good handle on the Fate canon and the rules on masters and servants and probably violated some kind of law somewhere by making Kurapika a berserker who still retains his sanity...
Actually, a better idea is making Kurapika the master who wanted a badass saber but instead got Kuroro the shitty lancer who keeps abusing his ability to operate independently.
"Where was I last night while you were getting attacked--oh, I killed Caster for you. :DDDDDb?"

I’m not super familiar with F/S Night but your writing is superb as always!! I totally agree though, present tense is haaaarrrdddd.
I've also read that it's pretty limiting in terms of time range? Either way I don't think I'm going to try present tense writing again anytime soon. It throws everything out of whack. :')

The Earring
Kurapika’s first memory was of the earrings. More specifically, it was of being cradled in his mother’s arms, her soothing lullaby drifting down to him as the sunlight caught the ruby dangling from her left ear. She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, and he was safe and cared for and loved. It was perfect.
Years went by, the earrings appearing and disappearing with some strange pattern that his toddler’s mind failed to recognize fully– only that it was marked by both sadness and hope. It was not until he was five, watching her eyes glisten with tears as she fished the rubies from her jewelry box, that he understood.
“You wear those when Papa’s gone,” he said in the solemn tone of a child with a burgeoning grasp of adult emotions.
His mother nodded, blinking back her tears in preparation for a story. “The first time your father left our village, just after he and I had begun courting, he brought me back these earrings. The next time he left, I missed him so much that I wore them every day he was gone. Over the years, it’s become a good luck charm, to bring him home safely.”
Kurapika nodded, an idea coming to his mind. “When I grow up and leave the village, will you wear them for me too?”
His mother knelt down, gathering him into her arms. “Of course,” she whispered. “Every day, until you come home.”
His mother’s arms were around him, and everything was all right. It would be forever, as long as she held him–
Kurapika sobbed into his mother’s shoulder, heedless of the scent of decay, of the blood that seeped through the blanket he had thrown over her ravaged body. The Spiders had needed his father’s eyes to turn scarlet, and Kurapika hadn’t been there to be tortured like the other children. His fault.
As he pulled her closer, chin atop his shoulder, something hard brushed his cheek. Turning, he spied a glint of red amid the crusted brown marring her head and neck. A trembling finger reached out, needing to confirm what his aching heart already knew.
It was a ruby earring. To keep him safe.
Throwing his head back, Kurapika howled his grief and rage into the night.
Kurapika stared at the earring in his hand, then at his reflection in the mirror, then back at the earring. Scrubbing tears from scarlet eyes, he set the earring down, then picked up the sewing needle. A moment of calculation, a flash of pain, and it was done. Dabbing the blood away with a cloth, he took the earring and pushed it through the freshly made hole.
One earring was buried with his mother, far away in a village filled with nothing but pain and ghosts. This one, he would wear in memory of his parents. It would be with him every waking moment, until the day he died.
Until you come home.
