I’ve recently reconnected with one of my teachers from junior high, and we’ve had some amazing conversations. He mailed me two books; one is specifically about my native Cowichan tribe; the other is on the history of totem poles and the carvers. I was not the best student in school. I struggled with a extremely dysfunctional home life, but my junior high teachers were amazing and have left life long impressions on me. I feel the love 30 years later! 🥰 I also had an old friend from Bates stop by and we had the loveliest visit. He finally got to meet Imani and Adrian. I went for a morning bike ride to burn some calories before my day began. I must say I love being so close to the country. I was raised on the river delta and I have so many amazing childhood friends that I still keep in touch with. Yesterday I learned that Mike Owen passed away. That man was like a second Dad to me. He was the best damn Yolo county sheriff around, and he would make sure I got my ass to school. His daughter Holly was my babysitter for many years. Fast forward 25yrs, when Imani started kindergarten to my delight Holly was one of her school secretaries. She would call me when Imani has bad days at school. She even pulled out one of her baby teeth after she got smacked in the face with a dodge ball. She lost her battle with cancer a few years ago.
